While I love that the Aussie have superior fighter power, I am wondering if this is a good idea for us to allow the 18’s to go to India.

Boeing F/A-18 Hornets

The combat-proven F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine, multi-mission, tactical aircraft. It converts between air-to-air fighter missions and air-to-ground strike missions while on the same sortie with the flick of a switch. Currently serving the armed services of eight nations, the F/A-18 fulfills the following types of assignment: fighter escort, suppression of enemy air defenses, reconnaissance, forward air control, close air support, and day and night strike missions.

It certainly wont be as bad an idea as sending F-16s to Pakistan and F-15s to Saudi Arabia.
To: NormsRevenge
detailed simulations conducted at the companys test centres, the Super Hornet on offer to India, can in fact operate off the Gorshkov. Who's going to be the first pilot of the real test?!

India has not decided to buy the Super Hornet. For what it’s worth, the French Rafale and Russian Mig-35 also have varying degrees of carrier compatibility. The crucial fact being that both countries have a closer defense relationship with India.

While I love that the Aussie have superior fighter power, I am wondering if this is a good idea for us to allow the 18s to go to India. China is a threat to India, so I say go ahead. Besides, the US would send F-22s against any enemy with F/A-18s. That would be no contest. F/A 18 is the best fighter not the F-22 and upcoming JSF.

But no other nation has the carrier ops expertise of the U.S. Navy.

F/A 18 is the best fighter not the F-22 and upcoming JSF. You have that backwards.
Besides, the US would send F-22s against any enemy with F/A-18s.
Where would they stage from to reach south Asia?

They'd try it at a shore facility first, using increasingly (decreasingly?) shorter runs.
My Mk.1 eyeballs have seen a few SuperBug flight demos at airshows and I believe that it could do it. While the demos aren't as impressive as the F-22A (which can literally stand on its tail and then execute thrust-vectoring enabled backflips), the E/F Hornet can stand on its tail and then accelerate near-vertically into push-overs. I've also seen one fly down the runway at 25-30 knots forward airspeed while maintaining a constant altitude with a 60-70 degree angle of attack.

I wonder what the MTOW would be for a ski jump takeoff?

Excellent. Closer military ties with the world’s largest democracy are a good thing.
