Cherie Blair: 'Tony's heart sank at Bush election win
Times Online ^ | 5/14/08 | Philip Webster

Posted on 05/13/2008 4:46:36 PM PDT by Dawnsblood

The Blairs’ hearts sank when they learnt that George Bush’s victory over Al Gore in 2000 had been ratified and that he was to become President of the United States, Cherie Blair reveals in The Times today.

She tells how she and her husband watched Mr Bush on television and were concerned at his poor grasp of foreign affairs, but Mr Blair was determined to have a strong relationship with the Republican President.

Although they had initial reservations about his political leanings she and her husband learnt to appreciate “a very funny, charming man with a quirky sense of humour”.

Mrs Blair describes Mr Bush’s tendency to “talk Texan” – a trait that he himself has blamed for his bad press – but goes farther, comparing him with Bill Clinton, who is also from the South. She says: “Clinton may talk Southern, [but] he doesn’t think Southern, whereas Bush thinks Texan.”

In her autobiography, Speaking for Myself, serialised this week in The Times, Mrs Blair recalls that her first reaction on hearing about Bill Clinton’s relationship with Monica Lewinsky was: “Oh Bill, how could you?” and that he had been “bloody stupid”.

She says: “Clinton may talk Southern, [but] he doesn’t think Southern, whereas Bush thinks Texan.”

An unintentional compliment to GWB.

I guess he wanted to be Al Gore Junior’s poodle instead (to use the British media’s phrase for Blair’s relationship with Bush).

Mrs Blair recalls that her first reaction on hearing about Bill Clinton’s relationship with Monica Lewinsky was: “Oh Bill, how could you?” and that he had been “bloody stupid”.

How could he? He had a track record of such workplace affairs (some non-consensual). His "critics" were aware of this fact and told that it was all a LIE. We now know who was lying.

And yes Bill is bloody stupid. What was the secret of "Bill Clinton's economic recovery" again? Maybe Obama should "try" it.

her first reaction on hearing about Bill Clinton’s relationship with Monica Lewinsky was: “Oh Bill, how could you?”

Sounds like she meant to say, "Oh Bill, how could you do this to ME?"

Sounds like Mrs. Blair brought a pair kneepads herself when she visited the Klintons.

Why do I believe that if GWB didn’t have a high negative rating she’d be praising the relationship the Blairs shared with him.

“..whereas Bush thinks Texan.”

Good thing he doesn’t “think British”.

A country that is daily, increasingly throwing away their unmatched, remarkable heritage.

YAWN. For the Clintonista scum Cherie Blair adopts the preposterous propaganda of a VRWC to blame for Billary's problems. Sure the VRWC forces Bill Clinton to drop his pants for every female who doesn't look like Shrillary. Oh, sure, the VRWC forced Bill and Shrillary to commit PERJURY numerous times over the years, to break numerous laws, to consider themselves free to trash our country, our government, and our values. They are scum, and have gotten away with it for far too long.

"Mrs Blair discussed the scandal with Mrs Clinton. “In her view, the way the right wing relentlessly pursued it was all part of a wider attempt by their enemies to discredit Bill. The most important aspect, she said, was not to let it undermine the presidency. So on a political, strategic level that was the line they took, that this had been politically motivated and stirred up by those who wanted to undermine the Democratic presidency. On a personal level, however, there is no doubt that she was furious and hurt, and rightly.”"

Actually, this part of the article “cherry-picks” and leaves out most of what she said. Her overall remarks are very positive about GWB. But to find the good parts, you have to click further in. This is the Times of London, its no surprise they don’t put anything positive about Bush up front.

She makes it plain, as the Times does not make it plain, that she liked the Bushes a lot.

Of coarse, the Bhalaihs, after sitting back watching Britain fall in the hands of militant Muzzies, are so much smarter. Al or John F’n Carey would have saved the day.

Poor woman. She shouldn’t be seen or heard.
