You have got to be kidding me! It's been quite sometime since I was in high school but back then every student had to take algebra and most of us took calculus.
So what *is* required for a level of mathematics for graduating high school these days? Counting on fingers!
Yep, and it started freshman year, too. At least back in 1977.
A long time since I was in school too but we had to take one yr of either algebra or geometry, our choice.
I chose geometry and found out I sucked at spacial equations.
I took algebra when I started college and absolutely loved it.
No one thought twice about it and the teachers could teach it - that is a huge difference. CA spent a decade of feel good teaching i.e., 2+2=5 if it made you happy. The Rev. Wright will tell you the "chickens have come home to roost" and the taxpayer is being fleeced again.............
mispost, should have been
1 yr of math w/ geometry or algebra, our choice.
Some people are better at mathematics. Some people are better at Language Arts or History. I took Algebra twice. I eventually had to settle for a summer school class of Pre-Algebra and a class of consumer math. I am not good at puzzles, either. So, maybe I am just stupid or I should never have graduated. I have old math books and every once in a while would try to learn it. A lady I know could never understand why that is one of my goals to learn Algebra. Yup. I homeschool my children, too. Good thing they are more like their father, so they can learn it more on their own.
LOL. Exactly. Before California took this “bold step”, just what, exactly, were the math requirements for high school? (shakes head)
Back in my high school in the 70's, the 4 year math program was: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry (a proof-oriented course, not a formula-memorizing course), and Calculus in senior year
