You have to admit it takes guts. Audacity, even.
Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive nominee of the Democrats, has in essence just defeated the heiress of the Clinton era by campaigning as the heir-apparent of the Carter era.
The question for the rest of the year is this: Are there enough voting Americans who survived the disastrous odyssey through the late 1970s that was led by blessedly now ex-president Jimmy Carter? While Ronald Reagan is rated in poll after poll by Americans as a great president, (most recently he rated second only to Lincoln), are there enough people who recall that Reagan's election came about because of Carter's...ahhh..."performance" in the Oval Office? And will they be able to make the Obama-Carter connection for younger voters hearing terms like "windfall profits tax" for the first time? More to the point, can Senator John McCain do this?
The greatest charade of the year thus far is the idea that something "new" is being said in this campaign. By anybody. To be bluntly accurate, the only thing new is that one of the final two candidates is black. It seems to escape some that in a country even as young as America, 55 presidential elections (2008 is the 56th) covers just about all the ground there is to cover in debating any given next four years in the life of the United States. Consider.

Jimmy Carter in his trademark cardigan sweater -- a necessiity indoors after he told us to turn down our thermostats.
WORST. PRESIDENT. EVER. I know, I briefed both he and President Reagan.
Worst president by far in my lifetime.
Ditto that.

Great Obama video!
I think that Obama is probably a lot smarter than Carter. Whether he will stick with his current proposals if he experiences the realities of the world remains to be seen. As for Hillary, I think she is a lot more pragmatic and ruthless than Carter could ever even imagine being, otherwise why would 35 retired high ranking military men be for her? Hopefully we will survive whoever wins.
Regarding the oil crisis in the early 70’s, I believe that OPEC decided to cut production because they were angry at us, also it did not help that we reached “peak oil” about that time and had to start importing a lot more. And before you start screaming ANWAR, consider whether we want to extract all our easy oil and then have little left for our next 100 years when we may need the other products that can be made from it. Frankly I hate being in the position of importing 2/3 of our petroleum needs, and ANWAR simply would not come close to changing that figure.
...and a Marxist...and a muslim (despite his protestations)
The problem is, most of my largely ignorant and pathetically politically under-educated generation is falling for this turd. "They want change" they tell me. If they wanted change all they had to do is ask: I usually have some quarters in my pocket--i'd be happy to lend it.
But seriously, they have no conception of the larger reality that exists, and are trapped in the "Hippie mentality". I just pray that, like most other elections, the fools in my generation will just stay home.
LOL Thank's for the laugh!
“I think that Obama is probably a lot smarter than Carter.”
I have no love of Carter. He was absolutely the worst president ever. However, I don’t think that Obama is more intelligent. Carter is just more unaware of the world around him.
“Frankly I hate being in the position of importing 2/3 of our petroleum needs, and ANWAR simply would not come close to changing that figure.”
Whoever is doing the deciding about not drilling in ANWR and offshore in this country, ( And, no, I do not think that it is the enviro-whackos. I think the decision is being made by possibly think-tanks supported by oil companies. ) is making a very wise decision. It means that this country will have the last oil on the planet.
“But seriously, they have no conception of the larger reality that exists”
Young people think they know everything. They know nothing.
I laugh at the pathetically amusing MSM when they interview young people or even children to find out their opinions, as if the short-term future of the world depends on their meaningless opinions.
Actually O is only 2.5% black. 50% white and 47.5% arab. See his father's pedigree.
It’s more dangerous times, Obama would be more dangerous than Carter.
Carter gave Iran to the mullahs; Obama would give them nukes...
And on and on. Many, many thousands of lives are at stake.
Then there’s judges...
McCain sucks, but the stakes are too high to not fight against Obama.
President Carter graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, was chosen by Admiral Hyman Rickover for the nuclear submarine program, and was assigned to Schenectady, N.Y., where he took graduate work at Union College in reactor technology and nuclear physics, and served as senior officer of the pre-commissioning crew of the Seawolf, the second nuclear submarine. Anotherwords, he was an nuclear physicist, something no one has ever accused Senator Barack Obama of being. He has a problem that many engineers have of poor human relations skills, but that's not to discount his intelligence. Admiral Rickover wouldn't let an idiot anywhere near his boats (he personally interviewed every officer that volunteered for nuclear submarines). I didn't care for President Carter and his policies, but let's not kid ourselves.
I was watching FoxNews a couple of months ago around Super Tuesday. The street teams were interviewing young people and college students to find out how much they knew about the political system and the primaries. Naturally, of the six or seven people interviewed, only one had a firm grasp of what a primary was. I too, laughed as you did, but then I realized that these people were serious, and I said, "Oh, Crap! I'm screwed. My generation is full of nincompoops!"
Jay Leno’s “Jaywalking” gives me nightmares, sometimes...
“I too, laughed as you did, but then I realized that these people were serious”
I did say, “pathetically amusing.” :-)
Never seen it, but I can imagine...I mean, the show is in California (no offense to any Californians out there) but CA is one of the more liberal states in the union. (My own NJ is just as liberal too, though)
Will you guys STOP posting this silly urban legend about Barry O being an Arab? Have you ever seen a photo of his father and his father’s family? They are COAL BLACK and do not look remotely semitic (ie Arab).
