I wonder if a gas station could sell gas with the taxes listed separately. Sure would be an eye-opener for the consumer.

A Sowell BTT. Supply and demand. Huh. No wonder economics is called the “dismal science.” ;-)

The problem is not that supply and demand is such a complex explanation. The problem is that supply and demand is not an emotionally satisfying explanation. For that, you need melodrama, heroes and villains.

That is so true, and applies to so many issues.

Politicians feed off of this human need for melodrama, heroes and villains.

I haven’t seen the taxes listed separately on a gas pump in a LONG time. I loved when they did that.

The effects of speculators is also a factor, no?

Why doesn’t congress just pass a law, setting the price of gas? Problem solved!

Oh, yeah. The good part is that sooner or later the speculators always get burned. The bad part is that the rest of us do too... :-(

Every time Hillary and Barak come off with their plans to tax big oil so the consumer doesn’t have to pay that should be flashed on the screen for all to see!

Federal excise taxes 18.4 cents per gallon for gasoline and 24.4 cents per gallon for diesel.

California 63.9 cents per gallon for gasoline and 72.0 cents per gallon for diesel.
