As a Noachide, please allow me to put my two cents' worth into this discussion.

As a Southern Fundamentalist, I realize something that most people do not: the Fundamentalist support for Jews and Israel is based on something very simple: Biblical sentimentalism. Down here (where there aren't many Jews), the only picture many people have of Jews comes right out of the Book of Joshua: a pack of rustic, Theocratic, sheep sacrificin', hoo-rawin', Torah-bangin', heathen-killin' religious fanatics. And much of the disappointment people like myself have with Jewish political behavior is because we carry this picture around with us and modern Jews don't live up to it. (This is one reason, IMHO, why some chr*stians get the idea that "the Jews" aren't really Israelites at all and seek to claim that title for themselves).

To put it bluntly, Fundamentalist Protestants have no historical memory between the Bible and (at the very earliest) Martin Luther. All that lies between is a blank. Modern Jews, on the other hand, haven't killed a Canaanite or sacrificed a sheep in so long that they don't even realize it's technically still part of their job description. Instead they define themselves entirely as a "religious minority." And this self-definition has destroyed all sense of proportion. Most Jews think that their primary duty is to protect the rights of religious minorities (against big bad intolerant chr*stians) and never stop to think that this isn't what Joshua did or what the Torah instructs (in fact, quite the opposite). But somehow the intolerant oppressive Joshua has become in the modern imagination the great-great-granddaddy of "chr*stian bigots" and the Jews have become the "Canaanites of chr*stendom."

Consider the ironies involved here. Chr*stianity exalts "grace" over "the Law" while Judaism is a statutory religion. Yet liberal Jews project Judaism's instransigent statutory nature onto chr*stianity, constantly telling themselves that chr*stians are going to "legislate salvation," yet it is Judaism that (like islam) legislates behavior down to the smallest iota. Jewish liberals are absolutely convinced that "separation of church (sic) and state" is a fundamental Jewish teaching, but Judaism knows nothing whatsoever of this concept (it is chr*stianity that says "render unto Caesar," not Judaism). Liberal Jews scream bloody murder over such public manifestations of "chr*stianity" as Sheshet Yemei Bere'shit (the Six Days of Creation) and `Asseret HaDibberot (the Ten Commandments), yet these are found in the Torah, not the "new testament." And ironically, while condemning their "primitive and bloodthirsty" ancestors (via projection onto chr*stianity) liberal Jews seem absolutely bound and determined to legislate the "sermon on the mount."

I'll go even further. Pious chr*stians should avoid this next statements because they will be offended. Liberal Jews like to blame everything on J*sus and chr*stianity, yet if J*sus were to come back they'd be the first ones to convert to his "general moral principals are more important than silly old laws" philosophy. In fact, I'd say that today's liberal Jews provide a far more accurate picture of J*sus than any form of chr*stianity that has ever existed. Liberal Jews who run around clucking about chr*stianity are only making fools of themselves.

Before ending this post I want to say something very, very important. Many ignorant chr*stians have the idea that the situation I have described is all because Jews study Talmud more than TaNa"KH (the Bible). But there is nothing even remotely liberal or "enlightenment" about the Talmud. The Talmud is Biblical Theocracy writ large and deals with all the aspects of Jewish law, most assuredly including all those embarrassing things that liberal American Jews either know nothing of or else are embarrassed by. If all Jews studied Talmud and submitted to it there would be no Jewish liberals!

And finally, let it be admitted that the disassociation of modern Jews from their Biblical ancestors doesn't exist only in the minds of liberal Jews but in the minds of most people. How many people when seeing a davnening Jew draped in tallit and tefillin see Joshua or King David? How many people see this sight and associate it with the "intolerance" of the Biblical Israelites? Very, very few. To almost all mankind the davnening Jew represents not the Jealous G-d of Israel (who will have no rival) but the notions of tolerance, pluralism, diversity, and absolute religious subjectivism. As long as this remains true we will be in this predicament. When the world can look at the davnening Jew and see not subjectivism and "gay rights" but uncompromising Biblical Theocracy and the Jealous G-d of Israel then we will be on our way back to sanity. But only Biblical Fundamentalists seem to see this now.

Honestly, how many people are aware that Orthodox Jews pray three times every day for the nations of the world to turn from their idols and bow to HaShem? That's like "good fr*day" multiplied infinitely!

The exile of Israel from its Land has literally turned the world upside down and inside out. May Mashiach HaMelekh arrive soon to set things right at long last and to vindicate HaShem and Israel!

Trust me, He will be arriving soon. And remember, not all people who call themselves Christians are Christians. It is impossible to be a Christian who knows Christ as Savior, who knows that God chose to bring forth the Savior through the Jewish people, and hate Jews. Yes, there are some Jews who have made foolish choices, and have chosen the way of destruction, like billions of other people who have walked this planet, but God's covenant with Abraham, and his Jewish descendants, still stands and still applies. God is not through with His precious people, the Jews, still loves them, and will, in the end, bring them to salvation.

And my opinion of the people of Joshua's time? They were Jews who were obeying God's commandments as they were given at that time and who could serve as good examples of obedience and trust in God to not only modern Jews, but most Christians as well.
