The Illusion that is Barack Obama
The Australian ^ | May 5, '08 | Fred Siegel

Politics produces a gap between words and deeds. Obama exaggerates the credit he deserves for a limited piece of ethics-reform legislation. He embellishes when he presents himslf as having a consistent record on the Iraq war when in fact he's done done a fair amount of zigzagging. He says it was the 1965 bloody attacks on civil rights protesters in Selma, Alabama, that inspired his parents to marry. They had been married for years already. He engages in doubletalk when, on free trade and Iraq, he tells the yokels one thing and the policy people another. He overstates when he presents his very minimal accomplishments in the Illinois Senate. He engages in systematic deception when he says he doedn't take money from lobbyists. He wants to be the conscience of the country without necessarily having one himself. But what makes him different is that there's not just a gap but a CHASM between his actions and his professed principles. For all his Camelot-like rhetoric, Obama is a product of the corrupt political culture that Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass described: "We've had our chief of detectives sent to prison for running the Outfit's (the mob's) jewelry heist ring. We've had white guys with Outfit connections get $100 million in affirmative action contracts from their drinking buddy. Mayor Daley. That's the Chicago way." When Obama had a chance to back clean candidates for the Cook County supervisors or governor, he stayed with allies of the Outfit. He backed Blagojevich for governor, under federal investigation, in part because of Tony Rezko, also on trial, helped Obama buy his house. As state senator, his mentor Emil Jones, machine-made president of the Senate, allowed Obama to sponsor a minor ethics bill. In return, Obama made sure plenty of pork went to Jones' district.

You mention Saint JFK. There was a review of Ted Sorensen's recently poublished memoir in the Friday WSJ. Sorensen was JFK"s adviser and speechwriter. He was also the principal author (ghostwriter) of JFKs book Profiles in Courage. (JFK handed him most of the money the book earned.) He also wrote the famous inaugural address by JFK. And hear this "Mr Sorensen confesses that he long ago destroyed his own handwritten first draft at Jacqueline Kennedy's request -- to preserve John F.Kennedy's "rightful place in history".

Huh? Paging Peggy Noonan. Peggy, destroy any mention of the thousand points of light in your notes to preserve you know whose rightful place in history!

Absolutely! The MSM have created a “messiah” and a rock star out of a far-Left mediocrity with little experience or proven ability and whose associates and colleagues are all extremists and corrupt demagogues. Just what we need for these extraordinary times!

Good information! Goldberg also mentions in his book that Joseph P. Kennedy (JFK’s father) was a “pro-Nazi” who was so embarrassing in his views that FDR had to recall him from England where he was ambassador. He also mentions that the whole Kennedy family was so very close to Joe McCarthy that Eleanor Roosevelt refused to endorse JFK for president because he NEVER rejected McCarthy or his tactics. The propagandists also constructed a phony image of Kennedy as the vigorous, healthy, athletic family man. We now know that this is bunk and that Kennedy suffered from Addison’s disease and was a promiscuous virtual drug addict.

Apparently, he can "doublesing," too...

Obama: Man of the World
By NICHOLAS D. KRISTOF

Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to
prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that
seemed delightfully uncalculated [...], Mr. Obama described the
call to prayer as "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at
sunset."
