A Pennsylvania elementary school has angered parents by giving them one-day's notice of planned counseling sessions with 100 third-grade students to explain that one of their male classmates would soon begin wearing girls' clothing and taking a female name and to ask that they accept him as a girl and not make unkind remarks.
The exercise in "social transition" was initiated by the boy's parents who approached the administration at Chatham Park Elementary School in Haverford Township asking that the school help in having their child's female identity find acceptance among his peers. After consulting experts on transgender children, the Haverford School District sent letters to parents advising them the school guidance counselor would meet with their children, reported the Philadelphia Inquirer.
While some parents contacted the principal asking that their children be excused, others took their anger out online.
"Why is the school introducing this subject to 8- and 9-year-olds?" wrote an angry parent who started a discussion on the Haverford Township's blog site. "Why were we not notified sooner. We received the letter today, the discussion at school is tomorrow."
The Haverford Township blog is not currently viewable.
In the letter to parents, Chatham Park principal Daniel Marsella assured parents the counseling would use "developmentally appropriate language" to explain "how we need to help this student make a social transition in school."

Close all public schools and ban every public school teacher from ever getting within 100 yards of a child!
It would be nice if this was the policy for all kids like the poor ones, the fat ones, the slow ones, etc. But I guess it is ok to torment them but be careful with this person.
Ok, good, then bring me up on charges or stfu.
Really?
I honestly believe that there are lot of posters on FR that make statements that are remarkable idiotic.
Amazing how holier than thou some people can be.
Public schools have downfalls, primarily in that they are a reflection of the local community, GIGO.
What I love are all you experts out there that think that they know everything about public schools because you listen to Rush or Boortz and read new articles about the odd occurrences in public schools.
The same day this happened there were thousands of schools where it didn't happen.
Amazing how holier than thou some people can be.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
There are schools that are so horrific that it would be better for a child to be illiterate and innumerate than to ever set foot in one.
I **seriously** mean it!
So?....Where is the line that you would not cross? Does one exist for you?
You don’t live in my jurisdiction.
So you’ll willingly and knowing allow child abuse and do nothing about it?
Yes, you’ll do that before admitting to obvious ignorance.
And some private schools have had child abuse down to an art while one home school mother drowned several of her pupils.
But it is easy for bystanders to take potshots on public schools instead of working on problems that they personally see, isn’t it?
Do your kids go to those schools that are horrendous as you say?
Are you doing anything to fix the problem?
If no, then what are you complaining about?
And BTW, I’ve had kids in private and public schools. Both my wife and I have been intimately involved in school systems and can speak to the good and the bad much better than most of those who simply sit back and throw stones.
Again. The following applies to all the points you raised.

So, are they going to let the kids bring knives to school for this?
McHugh, who has studied sexual reassignment surgery for 30 years, particularly in the 1970s when Hopkins was a leader in the field, said society should not support decisions of immature persons. "People came to us saying that if we changed them, we'd solve all their problems," he said. "So we changed them, and their problems remained."
Initial look says that most parents are angry this is happening without their approval. As for the transgender issue itself...not sure. 50-50.
Well, this is The People’s Republic of Pennsylvania after all.
Yes but, not all killers are murderers. Not all sex is rape. Theft is not always bad. By definition, transexuals are not transvestic fetishists.
The children should make fun of the adults in this situation not the kid who is being abused.
What if this child has a change of mind one day & curses his parents for allowing him to dress & act like a girl in the future? I wonder what kind of lawsuit he will have against his parent or the school or if there are grounds for one.... What bothers me the most is the parents & school that hide the fact that Jamie (the girl) is really James (the boy). At least this school is letting everyone know what is going on. I would be very upset if Sassy was playing with Jamie then she found out it was James. Shaking my head.
I can see a South Park episode about this
Is this a definition of the DSM-!V? I put about as much stock in that, as I do in globull warming! (To be fair, I have a degree in Psychology, but am not a clinical psy).
I am sorry if I step on toes, but it is just more confusion and sin, to me. God does not make mistakes. Our own feeble minds make these decisions without regard to the root problems.
Girls are girls and boys are boys, no matter how much these sinners want to change things. They will never be at peace! The feminists like to emasculate.
I see this as just more confusion generated by the Homosexual community, as well. They want to rationalize themselves, so making others weirder is good for them.
Homosexuality is sin, and this is just an add-on (BOGO)! JMHO!
and if they don’t?
