According to the Basra Narrative, Moqtada al-Sadr scored a huge victory yesterday when he capitulated Sadr City to Nouri al-Maliki. Faced off against the Iraqi Army and the US military, Sadr agreed to drop all resistance to the central government as long as his men got to keep their small arms. McClatchy, however, still bitterly clings to its criticism of Maliki for “picking a fight” against armed thugs and rebels:

Followers of rebel cleric Muqtada al Sadr agreed late Friday to allow Iraqi security forces to enter all of Baghdad’s Sadr City and to arrest anyone found with heavy weapons in a surprising capitulation that seemed likely to be hailed as a major victory for Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki.

The Sadrist said the US military would not be allowed to operate inside Sadr City; however there is no confirmation of this from the Iraqi government or the US military. "The Iraqi forces, not the American forces, can come into Sadr City and search for weapons," Baha al Araji, a Sadrist legislator said. "We don't have big weapons, and we want this to stop."

Zrabbat biha! First, you Sadr scum are not calling the shots. If the US wants in, the US will go in.

Second, what do you think we are...idiots?? You think the US believes that those rockets that have rained down on the IZ and around Baghdad over the last month or so are coming from somewhere else? We can see and hear where they're launching from, you fools and we know who's been doing it!

The Sadrist must be stupid if they think US Spec Op teams would not continue to be involved in the walling off of Sadr City.
This political entity, if I can be permitted to loosely call it that, seem to forget there is a valid democratically elected government in Iraq. And the government is responsible for the security and well being of all it's citizens.
These people are so backward in so many ways. Stuck into a mold they cannot step out of.
Only brute force sometimes jolts their minds into thinking beyond their little bubble.
