The crowd from the Crawford Texas Peace House may be sitting this one out, but the sanctity of President Bushs daughters wedding Saturday wont necessarily stop anti-homosexual protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church from trying to crash the blessed event.
Shirley Phelps Roper, daughter of the leader of the Topeka, Kan., church whose members picket at locations where they believe homosexuality is being encouraged, said eight church members will picket near Jenna Bushs wedding Saturday night.
The protesters will set up at Prairie Chapel Road and Farm-to-Market Road 185 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Roper said.
Meanwhile, peace activist Kay Lucas, caretaker of the Crawford Texas Peace House, says the organization plans no protests of its own Saturday but will staff its headquarters at 9142 Fifth St. in Crawford, several miles east of the presidents 1,600-acre ranch.
We just felt that she (Jenna) doesnt have anything to do with her father and his policies, Lucas said. And this is a womans one-time dream of a wedding day. Protesting would just be tacky.
Its a rare concession by the peace activists, who have mounted local protests of President Bushs war policies since 2003.
They were pivotally involved in Cindy Sheehans massive anti-war protest near the presidents ranch in August 2005.
Ropers group, however, trailed the president last week as he toured tornado-ravaged areas of Kansas, she said.

They need to go to Chelsea’s place and demonstrate.
Ummmm, errrrr. Never mind.
isn’t this church that protests at funerals for combat military personnel deaths?
these people need a punch in the nose.
I am all for Rights activities when appropriate - no matter the cause - but I think there are some members who belong to these groups would qualify for a mental status check.
There has to be a fitting syndrome of “Political Protest Demonstration Need and Desire for Recognition”.
These people need some serious study.
Doesn’t the old man there at Westboro have sex with his daughters or something?
Why are they called an anti-gay group? They are also racist. They are also anti-war. They are also DEMOCRATS.
Seems “odd” that they are singled out always (A) as “Christians” and (B) as “anti-gay” when there are a lot of other things they have in common (including bloodline).
For a “church” they sure engage in a lot of illegal political activity.
Cindy who?
Oh now what?
Y’all aren’t from around here, are you?
Cindy who?
The last I heard of Cindy, she was (is) running for Nanci Pelosi’s House seat.
Bad sess to both of them.
Their targets are always conservative: Amish, Military funerals, and now the Bush Wedding. (I don't know the Amish are conservative, but they seem pretty down to earth.)
I wouldn't expect him to protest against Code Pinko, he agrees with them in opposing the war.
Did Phelps’ cult issue a statement against Miller Beer over the sodomite “last orgy” poster?
This tells me that the group isn’t about condemning homosexual soldiers, or the war, they’re just your garden variety liberals who like to make nasty whenever they can.
