YANGON, Myanmar (CNN) -- Authorities in cyclone-ravaged Myanmar have seized United Nations aid intended for victims of the disaster, a move that "shuts down" future flights from the organization, according to a U.N. World Food Program official.

A child sleeps on the floor as cyclone-affected families shelter in a school in western Yangon.

"This is another example of them actively getting in the way of relief getting to the victims," said Tony Banbury, Asia director of the World Food Program.

Asked whether, the move would jeopardize future U.N. aid flights, he said, "absolutely, from our perspective, it shuts them down."

You are welcome. The CIA deserves a lot more credit than they get. Intelligence isn’t always clear, and they have been hamstrung by a lot of politics - Clinton leftovers and Socialist infiltrators - but, I believe that most are good hardworking and loyal Americans. Patriots.

Only a dictatorship sees a disaster as a windfall.

Well, dictatorships and democraps, as we saw with Katrina.

What? Invite the ‘Great Satan’ to feed the people and give them aid????

I know. Appalling isn't it? "We are starving! We want food! It's from the U.S.? Oh, nevermind."

"I guess its time for the U.S. to be called on once again to do a massive relief air drop."

To be criticized ad neauseum...since the base threw Bush under the bus and took all the fun out of manufacturing Bush administration scandals, they haven't been able to do anything but praise Obama the messiah...they must be getting bored with that.

All dictators know the UN is a collective eunuch. They bank on it. Literally. Look at Saddam.

eaflets would be a death sentence to anyone caught with one and probably for his family also.

So was putting your signature on the Declaration of Independence.

Of course its there choice to read/act on the leaflet.

Leaflets are something inserted from the outside. France did not airdrop the Declaration on the patriots and they would not have been shot because they picked it up out of curiosity or because it was attached to a sack of rice. You sound like you think they deserve to die if they don't buck up and throw the bums out.

It’ss a terrible tragedy. I am so sorry for the people of that country, both because of the hurricane and because of the government that oppresses them. Thank you for your inputs to this thread—I’ve read your home page and you obviously know whereof you speak. May God bless you.

While 90% of the population is Buddhist, what of the junta?

Worth repeating in big bold letters:

Air drop some guns and ammo.

You sound like you think they deserve to die if they don't buck up and throw the bums out.

Deserve to die? No. Although it may be their decision to make at this point between starving to death or forcing their leaders to allow food aide.

As for the leaflets, if they are dropped separately it is their choice to pick them up or leave them on the ground. Point being that we aren't sentencing the death by dropping leaflets.

Of course their leaders may also shoot them for picking up the food. So that too would be their choice.

I’ve always said that the worst thing McCarthy did was to give Communism a softer face.

It’s just not widely accepted that Communism is bad.

Take a look at how many kids wear Che Guevara tshirts.

They have no idea. They are useful idiots.

Some people refuse to be helped. Fine, we offered our generosity and they shunned it. We did our part. Screw them.

The only realistic way to feed these people would require the declaration of war on the junta and its military. Unfortunately, that takes way more time than the survivors have.

Sometimes life in a fallen world really sucks.

100,000 people dead and the country’s rulers refuse aid.......never thought I would see it.

Mao killed over 50 million people and it didn't even involve a natural disaster -- he starved them to death, all in the interest of holding onto political power. Dictators could careless for their subjects.

But the figure could rise to HALF A MILLION through disease and hunger if the nation’s hardline army rulers continue to block aid

How is this not genocide on the scale of Rwanda?

Yeah, and we all saw how concerned the world was with THAT.

I agree with the previous poster that said “Sometimes life in a fallen world really sucks.”
