I am humbled and most respectful to these two great men.

However, McCain has still not earned my vote

Same here. While I honor McCain for serving and the extreme suffering he went through, it does not qualify him to be President.

It is his adherence, or lack thereof, to conservative principles that will allow me to vote/not vote for him.

Given his history, I will not be voting for him, I will, however, write in the name of an Actual conservative and fight for all Conservative candidates in down-stream races.

McCain's recent history:

1. Gang of Fourteen (Kept some of President Bush’s best judges from being presented for a vote) See here and here
2. McCain-Fiengold (Assault on Free Speech and Pro-Life
3. McCain-Kennedy (Amnesty for criminal Illegal Aliens)
4. McCain-Lieberman (50 cents a gallon tax)
5. Total support for global warming scam, including the Carbon Cap-and-Trade system. See Here
6. Support for embryonic stem cell research (Murder of unborn babies).
7. Wants to close Gitmo and give Terrorists access to our legal system.
8. F grade from Gun-Owners of America.
9. C grade from NRA.
10. 65% score from American Conservative Union in 2006
11. Wants to bail out sub-prime losers (many of which are either illegal aliens or lied on thier applications) with US tax money.
12. Voted against President Bush’s tax cuts (called them tax-cuts for the rich)
13. Flirted with the idea of crossing over to the Dems in 2004.
14. Wants to implement a socialist Health Care proposal that includes providing tax-coffer monies (your tax dollars) to the states to provide Health Care Insurance for those who either refuse to pay for it, or are unable to afford it (mostly illegal aliens).
15. Divorced his wife after he got back from Vietnam. The same woman who remained true to him and raised his kids while he was imprisoned.
16. Refuses to drill in ANWR. See here and here
17. Agrees with Democrats that our Foreign Policy has been arrogant and we need to be more humble.
18. Thinks and states that Pharmaceutical companies are evil
19. Has accepted funding from Soros and Teresa Heinz-Kerry for his institute
20. John McCain's Top 10 Class-Warfare Arguments Against Tax Cuts
21 "I think the Democrat Party is a fine and I have no problems with it, in their views and philosophy"
22. Strongly against Same Sex Marriage Ban Constitutional Amendment
23. Voted for Pro-Abortion Bill and Here.
24. Voted against bill that would impose sanctions against foreign governments and companies that invest more than $20 million in Iran's energy sector until the president certified to Congress that Iran had dismantled its weapons of mass destruction Here and Here
25. Voted against repealing the death tax.
26. McCain-Edwards-Kennedy    (Many Democrat inspired bad rules included in this monstrosity)

McCain has political problems, for sure, most of which he has created for himself.

In terms of McCain as Vietnam POW, I read an article in a small town TX newspaper by a man who once believed ill of McCain as a POW.

This man changed his mind on that after getting a personal letter from Bud Day and after speaking with Day following the letter.

Also, he checked and found to be true that those who served with McCain during the POW years are his strongest supporters, not his detractors.

This is the opposite from John Kerry’s case, where so many who knew what Kerry was like and what he was up to were part of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

And no, you didn’t have to serve on Kerry’s boat in order to know what Kerry did. It didn’t work that way, as the Swifties explained.

Bottom line, McCain deserves respect if it comes foremost from the men who served with him.

The political problems are a seperate issue, IMV.

Instead of writing someone in, why not vote for the American Constitution Party candidate? The more votes for that candidate, the more the Republican Party will pay attention to conservatives.

Thanks for the ping, Ma.

I've been fortunate and humbled in my tracks to speak with several Vietnam POW's and exchange a few e-mails with Bud as well.

I don't much care what McCain's detractors say, I'm voting for him and that's that.

There are still some good men around today, and hopefully it's enough, but it's certainly far less than there should be who give a true damn.

I'm sticking with the good guys. (Oh, and the fine ladies of course!)

Whoa... hold on now...vote for your bananna.....you people stop it.

Seriously, after back stabbing McCain gets your vote, you think he is going to stand by any conservitive appointment and then "reach accross the isle" (traitor) and stand up for you ....I doubt it

Thanks for the pings, you two.

Colonel Day is a man of tremendous courage and integrity. His words about John McCain, here and elsewhere that I’ve read, are more than enough for me to believe that he is a man of integrity also.

I see you the same way, Jaz.

I've always liked this, I trust you do as well....

There is so much to be said of Bud Day, and it will always be impossible to say it in one post by me or anyone else.

I can't begin to express how important it is to have such men still walking among us.

Agreed, Smooth.

That is a powerful letter by Bud Day, he is not about to mince words when he knows he’s right, and he was right!
