John McCain rarely speaks about his experiences as a POW in Vietnam, but one of his cell mates at the Hanoi Hilton on Thursday described some of the conditions and character traits that earned McCain the commendations he received for his war service.
Col. George “Bud” Day, 83, is the most decorated service man since Gen. Douglas MacArthur, with more than 70 medals. A living legend, Day was blown out of the sky two months to the day before the North Vietnamese shot down a propaganda prize, whose father and grandfather were renowned American admirals.

If McCain were a Democrat, there would be three or four Hollywood movies about his captivity by now.
Instead, we are on our fourth Hollywood movie about Che Guevara.
You just do-not-get-it.
Thank you for posting. Allow me to head off the disgraceful, idiot remarks by calling them that.
Yep, I would never presume to question his military experience or his heroism, just his history in politics. And that is what he should be judged on if he wants to be president. IMHO
Hardly fair to compare McCain - a true hero -with Kerry - a wannabe.Hardly fair? I'd call it downright dishonest. Despicably dishonest. It's exactly the kind of thing the dems do, the MSM does, the university profs do... linking all things as "equivalent".
McCain's war record is not "equivalent" to Kerry's record of 3 months in the field and 40 years whining about it.
No. McCain has a lot of problems, so many that I won't vote for him. But to compare his heroism with Kerry's soldier-bashing is downright mean, and downright dishonest.
There are many things I disagree with John McCain about.
But he is, in my humble opinion, a hero.
I can’t imagine the hell he went through. The hell they all went through.
God bless each and every one of them.
To you and all the other twits who can’t see past the blinders on your eyes:
This article was not an invocation to vote for John McCain. It was one great American war hero talking about another great American war hero.
I am not voting for John McCain. I’m going to leave the top of my ballot blank.
But I will not sit here and read you low-lifes degrade the service of a great American hero.
Not without telling you what I think of you: self-centered, self-important, self-aggrandizing, selfish arrogant prigs. All of you.
Just because it is McCain was shot down and a POW vs Kerry finegeling purple hearts does not change the fact it is the same play. Do we forgive the thief because their victim is a scoundral?McCain had the exact same opportunity to slander US servicemen when he returned to the US, just like Kerry did. But he didn't do it, did he? Why not? Have any idea, twit? Or do you just rely on your own bumper-stickers for all your ideas?
Meanwhile, Obomber's roommate (for what - the last decade?) describes, again, how and why America sucks.

If I were the Vietnamese I would be verry nervous right now.
So in other words, you respect Bud Day but you’re basically calling him a liar. You PRETEND to respect Bud Day, but then go out of your way to IGNORE what Bud Day says.
You SAY you revere Bud Day, but then totally DISCREDIT what he says in this article.
Just come out with it: you don’t have time for ANY military heroes who have worn the US uniform, do you?
Thankfully, the stupid rants of Freepers here will not reach beyond these threads. Even the Democrats are too smart to say these things. On nomination day, the biographical sketch of John S. McCain will move millions of Americans to be proud of their country and of him, and no one will pay attention to the bitter ravings of a fringe minority consumed in their irrational hatred of McCain.
Samtheman, don’t waste your energy trying to convince these characters. McCain does not need the votes of a perpetually constipated fringe minority that hates him irrationally.
Yep, I would never presume to question his military experience or his heroism, just his history in politics. And that is what he should be judged on if he wants to be president. IMHOAnd I believe you are correct. His politics does not earn him my vote and the vote of many others here. Fair enough.
But the posted article here is not about his politics, but about his war record. But the same-old, same-old people have to show up here and yadda, yadda, yadda, about the politics.
I know about his politics. I'm not voting for the man.
But can't someone post an article about his war record without it generating the same yadda, yadda, yadda about his politics?
What? Are they afraid they're running out of places to post their same-old laundry list of gripes? I KNOW the list. I AGREE with the list. But it's been posted in FR about 15 BILLION times. Can't we have one war-record thread without the freakin' LIST?
Errr....so who is your candidate?
I tell you. I don’t know who gets on my nerves more. McCain, or the same old repetitious bastards who preclude all discussion on any subject other than their well-worn, well-memorized, well-posted, well-repeated LIST of grievances.
I know the damn list. I don’t have to have it rammed down my throat on every thread.
Thank you for your list. Please remember to post it on any thread that contains the letters ‘j’, ‘m’, or ‘c’ in any of the text.
Thanks again.
To me they go hand in hand. Praising his heroism has become the de facto theme for his eligibility to be president, not his history in the political arena.
