I had the exact same thoughts as you re:J C Watts. I rather liked him when he was in office, met him several times at various campaign functions. He seems defensive of Obamama and then even said he defended himself to those who questioned how he could be African American and Republican by saying he didn't always agree with Republicans and brought it up.

Has JC gone soft since being out of office? Was there more to his leaving office than meets the eye I wonder? (i.e. did Party higher ups decide JC was no longer “worth” it?)

I was actually wondering whether he’s letting race trump ideology in this case.

I do recally, however, that when JC quit it was rumored that the party elites thought he was somehow not up to par.
