I don't want to alarm anybody, but maybe it's time for Americans to start stockpiling food.
No, this is not a drill.
You've seen the TV footage of food riots in parts of the developing world. Yes, they're a long way away from the U.S. But most foodstuffs operate in a global market. When the cost of wheat soars in Asia, it will do the same here.
Reality: Food prices are already rising here much faster than the returns you are likely to get from keeping your money in a bank or money-market fund. And there are very good reasons to believe prices on the shelves are about to start rising a lot faster.

My apologies. I have not been here on the site for quite some time.

I’ve had trouble finding much that isn’t hybrid. That’s why I’ve been buying them...so I could replace.
NP. Didn’t mean to sound like a griper.
I’m going to do Sam’s Club for Mother’s Day.
After Ironman!
Don’t worry about it. We all don’t catch the first or second threads. This is the first I’ve seen it.
Don’t be skeered. Just be prepared:’)

I have taters, maters, corn, wawmelons, lopes, beans and peppas growing and will be planting more stuff today! It will soon be time to set out sweet tater slips.
I agree there is a problem — a problem that will likely be solved with a change in Ethanol policy. Politicians seem to be coming around on this environmentalist debacle — I’ll bet this gets solved reasonably quickly.
My point wasn’t that there isn’t a problem, my point was that there isn’t a crisis. This headline makes it seem as if the Journal is predicting widespread food shortages, famine, etc — stock your pantry or you could starve kind of nonsense.
The fact is, the WSJ isn’t suggesting you stock your pantries for a coming famine ... its suggesting that until Ethanol policy is changed, there is a good investment opportunity in bulk food because food prices are likely to rise in the near term — to which I say, “duh”.

Try here. There are other sites as well this is just the one I personally use.

What would we do without the Post Police..........
And thus we get virtual inflation: the money supply may not change, but the perceived money supply increases dramatically.
Contrasting M0 (actual cash supply) with M3b (total perceived money), our economy acts as if there is $15 for every physical $1 - and the ratio is rising fast. Hence our rising pricetags: M0 inflation is almost nil, but the economy sees an excessively rapid growth in the total money supply and inflates accordingly.
In my area of the midwest, most farmers fields have been replaced by big new subdivisions of homes. I’ve been saying this for years now, there will be no crops if there are no farmers left!!
Okay, can anyone help with a shopping list?
What should I buy and what will keep the longest? We have a family of four including one who is happy to live on Peanut Butter.
Load up the pantry? How silly.
The REAL solution is to carry it closer than the pantry. I carry mine around the waist.
All the rest of you have to run to the pantry, I can just carry on!
Those are the ten-cent packs at WalMart and the dollar stores. I buy two or three dollars worth every year and put them in a ziplock baggie in the bugout bag.
Till we put YOU on the rotisserie...
“Costco and Sams Club are already putting limits on how much you can buy.”
40lbs of rice per visit is only a problem if you own a restaurant.
