Today is the 65th Anniversary of VICTORY IN EUROPE DAY,
when the World War II Allies formally accepted the unconditional
surrender of Hitler's German forces in Europe.

Pray God we can defeat another mad man trying to destroy our own country.

Thanks for the post. I was on the Austria border at that time. In truth it was sort of a non-event. The Nazis had finished fighting us and were concentrating on keeping the Russians at bay. We could not go home. We were on the alert for possible Pacific duty until Truman dropped the big one. Then it was over. Regards,

!!!

First let me say that I am honored to make your acquaintance! Thank you for your service.

I was surprised when no threads about VE-Day turned up and found your year old one in a search and posted to it.

While doing my web search I did read that while the people in the cities celebrated, the soldiers were not overly excited by the announcement because they knew they had more to do - that there was more to come.

Thank you for responding ex-snook.
