Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama each took a state Tuesday. But the result was a damaging loss for the woman who was once the overwhelming front-runner for the Democratic nomination. Here are some observations on the race:
- Mr. Obama is now the prohibitive favorite. Tuesday night, he took at least 94 delegates to Mrs. Clinton's 75 and leads the former First Lady by 176 delegates in the AP tabulation. He has 1,840 of the 2,025 delegates needed to win. Mr. Obama needs only 185 or 38% of the 486 outstanding delegates (217 to be elected in the six remaining contests, and 269 superdelegates yet to endorse a candidate). Mrs. Clinton needs 341, or 70% of those left to be awarded.
Mr. Obama understands this. On Tuesday night, he added a big dollop of general election themes and pre-emptive defenses against coming attacks to his stump speech. - Mrs. Clinton may battle until June and possibly until the convention in August. There's nothing Mr. Obama can or should do about it. After a long, bitter struggle, losing candidates often look for reasons to feel aggrieved. There is no reason to give her one. No pressure from Mr. Obama or party Chairman Howard Dean is better than pushing her out of the race.
- The Democrats' refusal to seat the Florida and Michigan delegations at their convention is an unresolved problem. If they insist on not seating these delegations, Democrats risk alienating voters in states with 44 of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House. And here Mr. Obama is at greater risk than Mrs. Clinton, especially in Florida. He trails John McCain badly in Sunshine State polls today, while Mrs. Clinton leads Mr. McCain there.

One of the quotes I never hear any more is one that would even make the most hardcore obama worshipper do a double take. It was in the same speech where she spewed her 'first time in her adult life proud of her country' crap that you mentioned. Later in that same speech, she started in, and I will have to paraphrase this, talking about some strange idea that "Barak is going to make everyone get involved". Involved in what, she didn't say. When she said that, the mindless crowd (which I can easily picture in my mind) that had been cheering loudly, suddenly backed off their wild cheering a bit. Following that, she said something to the effect that obama was going to make everyone change to a new way of life. The wild cheering died down substantially. Then, the very next thing she said quieted the crowd down to only a few smattering of muffled cheers. And this, I pretty much have word for word. "Barak is not going to let you go back to the way things were before."
I so wish this was played over and over at least on the talk shows.
That's true and would impact our foreign policy and security. No doubt Hillary would be more likely to defend the country than to say we deserve to get beaten. But on many domestic issues I see a situation where either would have to put forth a stealth proposal like "common sense" gun control. Both would be bad. But if Obama were to propose mandatory registration or something like that, he would lose in Congress because Congress knows that 2 years later it will be 1994 or worse. But Hillary and her RINO allies will figure out some sneaky way to blackmail or cajole Congress into passing something that appears to be something else.
Which is good because it makes it more likely you will crawl over that broken glass to vote for McCain.
What I would crawl over broken glass to do is to see the complete abolition of the CRAT party and replacement with a party that is at least out for the good of America and its citizens instead of trying to turn us into a socialist state headed into an abyss.
Why are you so mad about Obama? This guy simply says and reflects what most liberals want in America. Liberals want to implement what they feel the country and world should be, not the true realities of how it really is. So they love Obama will give them bailouts from this irresponsible thought process and behavior. Now, this is fine because McCain will shred him in debates. However, it looks to me like the House will still belong to the rats, so blended conservative/socialsim is what our country will look like for the next four years, in other words a lot like now :(
If enough average American voters hear calls like that, Obama will carry DC for sure!
Agreed. He’s an unmitigated a$$hole. And like all the others (Gloria Allred, Newt Gingrich(ok at one time, but to me has sold out), Mark Furman, Dick Morris,Marcia Clark,Al Sharpton,etc;etc...)FOX gives him/them a damned job as commentator/’contributor’ and keeps them legitimized. Another reason I became disenchanted with the network long ago.
I am under the impression that what liberals say/think they want is actually NOT what most of them want. They just can’t figure it out: ie they are idiots.
Most liberals are as materialistic (if not more materialistic) as the next person. I say let the first liberal who believes in redistributing wealth globally be the first to toss most of his wallet into a corrupt foreign government.
Of course none of them would do it. They are too busy buying their ipods and SUVs.
The reason I hate Obama is I think this guy is actually serious about the whole wallet tossing thing. Except HIS wallet of course. Do as I say not as I do.
You know, I hadn’t thought about it that way before, but you’re right (constantly getting worse by degrees). But as for Obama, I still maintain he doesn’t frighten/worry me, because the majority of democrats will NOT vote for anybody black. Not in 2008. Don’t see it. Especially one with the middle name Hussein and The Rev will be in attack ads. Oh, and our weak candidate will get a lot of dem votes as well as independents, whether we like him or not.
Interesting thoughts about McCain.
I believe everything happens for a reason. Maybe we got stuck with such a weak candidate just to keep us free of Obama in this particularly important election. Live today fight tomorrow.
I kinda feel like it is like building a sandcstle near the water as the tide is coming in. You can keep adding more and more sand but eventually teh thing will collapse and be claimed by the ocean. Unless things change positively and fast I think the tide of liberalism is going to keep washing over this country.
Put quite simply-The Clintons are far sneakier and much smarter.
Yes, the McCainocrats will decide this election. Then the Witch will try again in 2012.
YES
I dunno.....they (it’s always plural where the Clintons are concerned) may-and probably will-TRY again in 2012, but unless the dem party puts up as totally weak a group as they did this time, I don’t think they’ll stand a chance. Edwards and Obama were the ONLY opposition she had, and had Obama not ran, I think Edwards would’ve taken it hands down, due to the anti-Clinton vote. His problem (and to a lesser degree, the Clintons)was blacks were going strictly for their fellow black. Not many noticed that Obama’s votes went up CONSIDERABLY once the Silky Pony dropped out, only because whites against The Clintons had nowhere else to go then to deny the Clintons the nomination. . BUT-what would be the key for them in 2012 would be-whether it was another weak field or not-and the main thing that would decide that would be how pissed off the party was at them for the havoc their selfishness this time around is causing. My guess is, they’re using up a LOT of good will. Add to that the fact that dem candidates do not ordinarily do as well the second time around (look at history). I believe that, unless the entire party were to unite behind them in 2012,this is their best and only shot. And the desperation and refusal to concede tells me I’m right.
Unfortunately-I look at it this way-you have your choice of riding in two cars. One is piloted by the cRATS-the other driven by the Pubs/RHINOS. The cRATS are headed for a cliff (socialism). They have the gas pedal mashed to the floor. The Pubs(RHINOS) are driving toward the same exact cliff...only they’re going about 25 miles an hour. But.... they’re still headed for the same cliff. I’ve Said it before: The Republican party of today is the Democratic party of 30 years ago. The Democratic party of today is the Socialist party of tomorrow.
.
I'm afraid the middle name Hussein will have no effect, because his skin color and his touting 'change' and an 'end to the war' to a war-weary sheeple will completely overshadow the name Hussein. I'm going to get into every liberal's face that brings it up: Who says that we, by retreating, will 'end the war' with al-Qaeda, who attacked us here at home first
You do give me some encouragement with your thoughts. I agree that our weak candidate will get quite a bit of the CRAT and independent vote. I also think the VP selection is going to be a huge deal.
Absolutely!
McCains VP pick will be a VERY huge deal. It usually doesn’t matter all THAT much to people, but this time, it certainly will, you’re right on that.
