McCain camp says not just Dittoheads will vote Dem now and GOP in fall
The Politico ^ | May 7, 2008 | Jonathan Martin

Hoping to shift the gaze from Operation Chaos, McCain's camp sent around a memo from manager Rick Davis this afternoon.

It's not just mischief-making Republicans who are crossing over in to the Dem primary with plans to come home in the fall, Davis writes. Real live Democrats are voting Clinton now and plan to back McCain in the fall.

Among North Carolina Democratic Primary voters interviewed in exit polls, 18% of the Democrats surveyed said they would vote for John McCain in a race against Senator Obama. This 18% is overwhelmingly driven by Senator Clinton's supporters: 84% are Senator Clinton supporters – that's roughly 15% of those who voted in the Democrat Primary.

An additional 6% say they wouldn't vote – again, dominated by Senator Clinton's supporters: this group represents 5% of the Democratic Primary population.

...snip...

Among Indiana Democratic Primary voters interviewed in exit polls, 18% say they'd vote for John McCain against Senator Obama. 88% of those supported Senator Clinton in the primary. This represents approximately 15.6% of Democratic Primary voters.

And, an additional 8% say they would not vote, again driven by Senator Clinton's supporters (98%). This coalition represents about 8% of the Democratic Primary population.

As I've said before, these rifts always seen worse in the heat of the primary. This contest has been longer and somewhat more contentious than most, but these figures will recede once Democrats look across the breach and set their sights on the general election. The question is exactly how money do come home and what kind of repair work will be needed to keep them in the fold.

Dear Senator McCain: Don’t take anything for granted. You’ll get your butt kicked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. You need to be taken out to the wood shed.

I’m with the Great One. If McSane does not pick a Conservative as a VP, I won’t vote for any Presidential candidate. I’ll vote for Congress and local. If it means Obama wins, well, we’re all equally screwed.

Meanwhile, between 22 and 27% of Republicans voting in the last two primaries still won’t vote for McCain.

Where did you find those numbers?

Failures of outstanding black Republican candidates to win top offices in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland and elsewhere in 2004 and 2006 where substantial numbers of Democrats were regularly crossing over to vote for Republicans pretty much demonstrated that there's a hard-core of 20% of Democrats who will not ever under any conditions vote for a black candidate.

Unless Republicans can mount an overwhelming super majority in an election, any black candidates they run will come in second. The same should prove true for the Democrats.

Again, the problem isn't with the Republicans, it's with the Democrats.

Obama starts out in the coming campaign short 20% of the Democrats. Whether McCain can pick them up to vote for him probably depends on his not insulting them and forcing them to stay home.

The numbers cited are those related to folks NOT voting for McCain in primaries. I don't think anyone has made a serious claim that all those people will simply sit out the election and give it away to Obama.

Again, McCain has to come clean with us before the billfolds open. First, he must publicly repudiate Fascism. Then he must call for the repeal of his failed "McCain/Feingold" act (and a couple of other things like that). It would help if he'd start criticizing Democrats.

No more Mr. Nice Guy (to Democrats) or McCain is going to end up needing to mortgage his home to stay in the race after the convention.

Bob Beckel is going to one sad guy election eve. He is absolutely convinced that Obama is going to win. I’m convinced that McCain will beat Obama and that McCain’s victory may approach 1972 proportions.

Only three kinds of people will vote for Senator Barack Hussein Muhammad Obama in November: Latte Liberals, blacks and VERY hardcore democrats. That is not a majority in this country (thank the Lord) and will not be sufficient, especially since many of the blacks live where whites will still turn the state red by dint of numbers (i.e., Georgia, Mississippi, etc..)

I think your right and I agree with Limbaugh on Obama. I don't think the DNC and MSM have a clue how the Wright and Ayers issues are going to go over with the folks that will actually vote in November. If it is a disaster for Obama at the top of the ticket it may be a lucky situation for Republicans at the bottom of the ballot.

McCain’s right about that. I see no reason why some of Hillary’s supporters won’t vote for him. Whether conservatives vote for him is another matter.

Those are the numbers of voters that did not vote for McCain in the last two primaries. They are within a few points of most of the last few states. (People who voted for Huckabee or Paul or “uncommitted”)

I have an account at the Politico. Never posted a damn thing there.

Why they get so much attention is a mystery to me.

An ABC hit piece that OBama whore Drudge posted .
Of course ABC failed to point out that GW Bush had the same percentage vote against him in 2000 in the same states in which the nominee was already decided.
Its just the ABC/DNC/OBama propaganda that Drudge peddles now.
