As the fate of a nailbiter Indiana primary -- and possibly the course of the Democratic race -- hung on his city, Gary Mayor Rudy Clay said just now that it might take a while yet to finish counting the vote in Lake County, which includes Gary, and said that his city had turned out so overwhelmingly for Barack Obama that it might just be enough to close the gap with Hillary Rodham Clinton.
"Let me tell you, when all the votes are counted, when Gary comes in, I think you're looking at something for the word to see," Clay, an Obama supporter, said in a telephone interview from Obama's Gary headquarters. "I don't know what the numbers are yet, but Gary has absolutely produced in large numbers for Obama here."
Clay said the results were late coming in from Lake County because of the large numbers of absentee ballots that had to be counted -- about 11,000. Under local practice, all of the cartridges from voting machines in Gary and nearby East Chicago are first collected at the local airport before being driven to the county headquarters to be tallied with the results from the rest of the county, he said. He said there were major technical problems holding up the count.
"It takes a little time. We want to be sure that every vote is counted fair and right," he said. "I just talked to the director out there and they are working like junkyard dogs to get that done as soon as possible. They are taking some time but I told them to do it right. That's what taking the time."

Fire up the popcorn popper, this is gonna get good.
Black folks voting for the black candidate...hardly shocking.
Election engineering at its’ finest!
OBAMBI KNOCKED 20,000 VOTES OFF HILLARY’S MARGIN IN AN INSTANT — AND 72% OF LAKE COUNTY “VOTES” STILL HAVE TO COME IN
Voter ID law, that is no small cutting’s in IN, the old load up the out of state buses is not going to work very well...
And all the world will wonder after him.
Wolf: “She (Hillary) might lose this state, that is certainly possible”
They had a public arm-wrestling match about this stuff in NV also.
Heh... this is probably what the Clintons engineered for him. Although Bill did look awful upset at her 'victory' speech.
Which I thought looked more like a dropout speech.
It was.
Berger is another such drone.
They’re saying that the 28% just reported was from Gary, so it might be more skewed to Obama
BUT inquiring minds want to know if Shrillary is crashing and burning tonight
I do wish you weren’t right! It’s sad, not having a horse in this race.
Oh, I hope so, although who knows if she might accept the VP slot. If not, I'm sure (as Dick Morris predicts) she'll be back in 2012.
Last I saw on FNC, it was Hillary now down to 51%, Obama at 49% with (I think) 91% of the precincts reporting...
I think Operation Chaos operatives may have affected the Indiana race... Obama may have won Indiana hours ago if not for these cross-over Republicans.
This could become a primary version of Gore v. Bush in 2000. I fully expect something like that within a few hours.Yep. Right down to CBS calling it early for the loser.
She conceded in her speech earlier, words matter.
I was just calling WI blue because they’ve voted Democrat in the presidential elections for quite awhile now. Senator Feingold doesn’t really help, either.
BO won in WI in a NC-like margin - an IN win can’t be legit - Gary is too close to the cradle of the Democratic machine.
They need a “Buckhead” in Indiana to unravel this obvious voter fraud. Why is it accepted that large urban counties come in late? The precincts are about the same size I would think. Why can’t the other counties hold up their results until the end too to prevent this?
Clinton will start intimidating the superdelegates she has dirt on, and insinuating she has dirt on all of them.
