Plants' Rights It isn't just the rights of animals that some are promoting. The Weekly Standard reports an ethics panel in Switzerland is expressing concern that the arbitrary killing of plants is morally wrong. The Swiss Federal Ethics Committee on Non-Human Biotechnology says that humans cannot claim "absolute ownership" over plants; that "individual plants have an inherent worth," and that man may not use them as he pleases.

So the next time someone is about to be put to death because doctors claim he/she is a vegetable. It is simple a vegetable has rights to!
What on earth do these people eat????
susie
And we know what a great job THEY'VE done over the centuries.
PETA.....now....PETP........another sick day on Planet Earth!
I was thinking what do they smoke?
and what do they drink?
It might be time to lay off the mushrooms!
ASK FIRST!
If the broccoli wants to be eaten.
Hey, fungi have rights you know!

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”
“our” ??
I used to be a fun guy!
These people have all of their screws loose.
It’s time to start culling the herd, folks.
Save the dandelions!
Can’t eat animals.
Can’t eat fruits, vegetables or grains.
It’s the Earth First plan to eliminate man.
Kool.
Riddle me this Batman, animals by definition cannot have rights, in the sense that rights are a human construct. Think about it, (In some ways they don’t exist for humans either, but that’s a whole ‘nuther thread)
Liberal do gooders and earth worshipers will start pushing this stuff here.
Lets back up a little.
Your premise is a bit uncertain.
Even our founding documents acknolwedge that the really important rights come from God. Good governments recognize those rights and enshrine them in positive law.
Governments also create lesser rights, many of which derive from concepts found in the God-given rights.
Its called natural law.

Your premise is a wrong.

Governments also create lesser rights (such as a right to a trial by a certain number of your peers), many of which derive from concepts derived from the God-given rights.
It’s called natural law.
It could be argued that animals have God-given rights.
It could also be argued that man should afford animals similar rights to those that humans have. I think doing so is a dumb idea, but your logical argument is not flimsy at best.

No, I said, human rights are a human construct. And you’ll notice, there are a whole bunch of them.
We have to use their logic against their claims - in this instance, they are positing that plants have “rights”, an impossibility. Animals do not have free will, they have very little in the way of planning for the future other than instinctual. Do you see where I’m going with this? Natural law and God given rights aren’t necessary to this discussion. I apologize if you misunderstood.
I’m a member of PETA - People for the Eating of Tasty Animals. Now I’m gonna have to join a group for the eating of tasty plants (PETP?).
Yes, plants, insects, and animals do not engage in ecologically friendly behavior.
