ABOUT 90 percent of the people shot in the city last year were African-American. While figures are unavailable, it is assumed by most that close to 100 percent of the perpetrators of these shootings were African-American. Almost all the firearms used in these shootings were obtained, possessed and carried illegally by those who perpetrated the shootings. If, as is constantly claimed, we MUST DO SOMETHING to stop this violence, then why not ban African-American residents of the city from owning handguns?
The answer is that that is patently unfair and discriminatory. To judge an entire group as a problem and punish all members of that group, irrespective of their individual actions, is unconscionable.
Yet, it's deemed perfectly acceptable to discriminate against one particular group - gun owners.
Let's just tell the truth. The instant Mayor Nutter gets the right to pass gun laws for Philly, it will become a practical impossibility to own a handgun or any other weapon the city deems "inappropriate."
I've done nothing wrong, but my rights are to be removed step-by-step because others - entirely outside the law - are using guns feloniously. How is this any less outrageous a suggestion than that black people shouldn't be allowed to have guns?

Because legal gun owners are just bitter people clinging to their guns, while to suggest that only blacks can't have guns is racist. At least I think I understood the liberal ideology there, correct me if I'm wrong.
Gun control was started by slave owners who wanted to make sure that slaves couldn’t own guns. After the Civil War, gun control was used as a means to disarm freed slaves and make them helpless victims of the KKK. Now, the Democrats, who are the ones who started gun control, don’t trust anyone with a gun because they know that an armed populace will never accept socialism.
Yeah, just ban guns and the killing will stop. That makes so much sense that I can't understand why somebody hasn't thought of it before! (sarc)
Were you born a gun owner? Gun ownership is something you choose, not something you’re stuck with.
Not that I buy that argument, but I could see it being used as a rebuttal. For the record, my son was born a gun owner, but since he’s only 3, I still hold on to them for him.
Yes.
"Kill the white people,
But buy my CDs first."
Well, as Rev Wright would say, "Back off, honky! It is a Black Thing!"
Philly ignorance on display again....All blacks (and whites) in Chicago have had their guns banned already. However, the race card allows all blacks to carry (ie, laws don’t apply, because they are assumed loyal supporters of the Dem machine).
This article gets very close to what I think is the real political impetus behind the gun grabs of the past decade or so: the horrific, shocking, nay, almost unbelievable levels of violence among a subset of the urban population. Partly driven by the (now lost) war on drugs, partly by the failed welfarism that has destroyed many inner-city families and neighborhoods.
But the libs have a problem: they can't talk about this violence without talking about who's getting killed, and who's doing the killing. They HAVE to change the subject. And gun control has been their method of changing the subject since the Clinton's rolled into town. Of course, in phase II, having all of the guns out of private hands will make things much easier, as you point out.
Lets face the facts. Where is there a significant black culture in a liberal run city and there isn’t any violence?
Nutter’s attempt to redline Philly is just as racist as a bank redlining mortgages.
There is the real discrimination. Law abiding citizens are stripped of a fundamental human right, the right to life, by denying the right to self defense, based on the actions of criminals. Is that fair? Is it rational? Will it protect anyone at all other than criminals?
You’re right. Looking at the demographics it would seem clear that the Democratics are still trying to disarm blacks and other minorities.

Nassau, Bahamas?
Great letter. Mr. Wolfington makes his point very well.
Heh. Thanks.
It’s an election year, so the old “Banglist” is heating up again. It never ceases to amaze me that the same old nonsense gets trotted out year in, year out, and the MSM, the Donk pols and all of their fellow travellers act as if their tired old lies are all bright and shiny and new.
Reminds me of the goldfish in the “finding Nemo” movie “Oh look! A castle!”
