Looks like Vito Fossella's DWI may have been much more than just a DWI.

His constituency would tolerate a DWI - but the underlying drama it seems to have uncovered is more of a problem.

"That is a demeaning and highly inappropriate question that does not deserve an answer," said Susan Del Percio, a high-priced public-relations crisis consultant.

Wrong answer!

For FReepers who are unfamiliar with Fossella, he is a Republican US congressman from NYC who is actually relatively conservative (87% ACU rating) and who replaced the RINO pro-abort Sue Molinari who gave that disastrously grating keynote speech at the 1996 GOP Convention.

I see this worsening story as a real blow to conservative Republicans in the New York metro area.

His constituency?

I'l bet this is a real hoot to the Guardsmen on, say, their second or third tour.

Most of Vito Fossella’s family on Staten Island are still Democrats. Some of them have drinking problems, fidelity problems, family problems. They are human. There is no excuse for drunk driving. He should be prosecuted for that. As for anything else, it is up to his constituency to decided whether he stays or should go. The NY Daily News is very interested in this Staten Islander. They usually don’t give a tinker’s dam about Staten Island. I find this very interesting.

A person who has a continued disregard for the law and for morality is not worthy of the honor of elected office. Party is not an issue here . . . actions are. Boot him from office.

Yes Vito has done bad things. He will be held responsible by the courts. As to what will happen in November, remember there are no senatorial races in NYS this year. That means Vito will be running just under McCain. McCain will get at least 65% or maybe even 70% on Staten island. Matched with McCain against barack mcgovern and either harrison or recchia I still like Vito’s chances to hold on. Anyone reading this who is a lurking Dummie or a scummer from the ratmedia and knows nothing about Staten Island except that it is in NYC so it is natural rat territory should not break out into the happy dance just yet.
The bigoted rank and file dimwitted democrats on the North shore won’t vote for barack mcgovern so many won’t show up. Every one that stays home is a vote for Vito and please don’t think conservatives on Staten Island will stay home over McCain, that just won’t happen out here, he will win big. Guy Molinari will redeem himself for his disgraceful support of the NASCAR track by bring prestige to the Island by having his old friend John McCain come to Denino’s for pizza with Vito. Watch it happen.
