Looks like Vito Fossella's DWI may have been much more than just a DWI.
His constituency would tolerate a DWI - but the underlying drama it seems to have uncovered is more of a problem.

"That is a demeaning and highly inappropriate question that does not deserve an answer," said Susan Del Percio, a high-priced public-relations crisis consultant. Wrong answer!

For FReepers who are unfamiliar with Fossella, he is a Republican US congressman from NYC who is actually relatively conservative (87% ACU rating) and who replaced the RINO pro-abort Sue Molinari who gave that disastrously grating keynote speech at the 1996 GOP Convention.
I see this worsening story as a real blow to conservative Republicans in the New York metro area.

Indeed.
Fossella is driving drunk in the DC area and when the police stop him, he says he was driving to see his sick daughter.
His legitimate daughter was presumably, at the time, up in Staten Island with his wife Mary.
The police take him into custody and he is signed out early in the a.m. by Laura Fay - a "friend" of Fossella's who lives near where he was pulled over and is a divorcee living alone with her toddler daughter.

His constituency?
I'l bet this is a real hoot to the Guardsmen on, say, their second or third tour.

Yea, having your “goomara” bail you out is appropriate
behavior. This is another Republican house seat that will be
lost. The entire local, state, and national elected leaders
of New York are so corrupted that it’s astonishing.

It’s too bad then that this guy apparently has a zipper problem. Another lost seat to the Rats.

The Rats are celebrating. The last time a Rat held that seat was during the Abscam fiasco. The Staten Island Congressman John Murphy, Sr. was the first in line to get a pay off. Fossella did a lot good for Staten Island. To bad, he can’t keep it in his pants and the booze out of his mouth before driving. There are no excuses for driving drunk.

Unless you are Patches Kennedy and then there are excuses upon excuses upon even more excuses to drive drunk and high.

I’m not sure I agree with the designation of that as “comely”.

Most of Vito Fossella’s family on Staten Island are still Democrats. Some of them have drinking problems, fidelity problems, family problems. They are human. There is no excuse for drunk driving. He should be prosecuted for that. As for anything else, it is up to his constituency to decided whether he stays or should go. The NY Daily News is very interested in this Staten Islander. They usually don’t give a tinker’s dam about Staten Island. I find this very interesting.
