Clinton: OPEC 'can no longer be a cartel'

Ben Smith 17 minutes ago

Clinton's attacks on oil prices as artificially inflated, Enron-style, keep escalating, and today she appeared to threaten to break up the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

"We're going to go right at OPEC," she said. "They can no longer be a cartel, a monopoly that get together once every couple of months" at a hotel in "some plush place in the world" to set prices, she told a crowd a volunteer fire house in Merrillville.

Clinton has cast herself as a warrior for working people against the oil industry and malicious "speculators," and made that -- along with her push for a gas tax holiday -- central to her closing message in Indiana. It's a potent message, like the attack on "Wall Street money brokers," with deep roots in American politics. It' It's also very hard to figure out what exactly she means by the threat to break OPEC.

RUSH: Why are any of you afraid of this ditz?

RUSH:...Let me play for you what I thought was the most interesting aspect of the interview last night. Those of you watched it may disagree, but it is this exchange that they had about oil prices. O'Reilly said, "Oil prices. You want us to suspend the federal gas tax. So does McCain. Obama doesn't. But when I hear that, I say, 'It's the same old politician stuff because the Democrat Party was opposed, is opposed to ANWR drilling.' You voted against nuclear energy seven times. And I'm saying to myself, 'Both parties, both parties have sold the folks out on energy, when the folks are getting hammered and they should be angry at both parties.' Where am I going wrong?"

HILLARY: Well, here's what I think. I think there's plenty of blame to go around. We're not acting like Americans, Bill. We're not in charge, and I want to put us back in charge. I also want to take on OPEC. You know, OPEC is a cartel, it's a monopoly.

O'REILLY: You want to take them on?

HILLARY: Yes.

O'REILLY: They don't care what you say. They're in Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.

HILLARY: Nine of the 13 biggest oil producing companies that are in OPEC are also members of the WTO. I would file complaints. I would also change the laws so that citizens and businesses could file anti-trust actions. We're going to begin to hold them accountable.

RUSH: What the hell is she talking about? Why are any of you afraid of this ditz? Did you just hear what she said her plan of action is to bring down oil prices? Lawsuits! Against bin al-Weid Taliban Asheed Sahib Skyhook. Do you what bin Talawad Kalabi Asid Sahib Skyhook is going to do when he sees Mrs. Clinton's lawsuit at the World Trade Organization? He's going to make a paper airplane out of it and send it back over here on one of his Airbus A380s. This is how they want to fight terrorism: with lawsuits! OPEC is not a monopoly. There are many oil producing companies that are not part of OPEC. This is incompetence on parade

She will probably ask her husband to help. He works for half of OPEC’s members. he should know how to get it done.

Actually, her husband makes a fortune from them.

People forget that the Clinton's fortune only showed what they had in things like wills and tax returns.
That showed over 200 million but the Clintons could easily have 400% more in foundations and trusts that the public would never see.

Clinton intends to use the bully pulpit to get OPEC to raise production, and to lower prices.

Somewhere near 93% of worldwide daily oil production comes from state owned entities, so that is the overall supplier group.

Our two biggest suppliers in 2007 were NOT in OPEC, namely Canada and Mexico. They do, however, sell their products at world market prices.

I would hope that some of the suppliers would say “increase your own production. Drill your coasts and your arctic. Quit driving up world food prices, with the inane ethanol from food-corn nonsense.”

"Nine of the 13 biggest oil producing companies that are in OPEC are also members of the WTO."

She's completely wrong about the largest oil producing countries, and she's wrong about the WTO.

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2173rank.html

The U.S. does have one trade deal that gives it a lot of energy security -- NAFTA. Under Chapter 6 of NAFTA, Canada -- the world's 8th largest oil producer, and the largest supplier to the U.S. -- guarantees the U.S. equal access to its oil.

Yes -- that's the same NAFTA that the Democrat candidates say they would renegotiate -- even though there's no way any Canadian government could allow Chapter 6 to stay in renegotiated NAFTA. (If our Conservative government allowed this to happen, we wouldn't have another Conservative government for several generations.)

Throw out the baby, bottle the bathwater.

....some plush place in the world...

Like when Hillary cooked up a universal healthcare plan that would have taken over about 12% of the economy...in some plush place!

She is just saying whatever the loony left wants to hear to get elected...

Honestly, instead of dedicating herself, her candidacy to the cause of viable energy alternatives, she comes with this non-starter.

How brazenly obsequious can you get? What a shameless sham of political posturing ever in the history of shady political brown-nosers!

I can such imagine her sitting around with her campaign lackeys as they throw out all sorts of convoluted, cockamamie strategies and then,

Bingo! Eureka!
OPEC!
Yes, that's it!!

What a perfectly ingenious nemesis! Yes, OPEC! It's a sputtering campaign's dream come true, the perfect campaign target that encompasses, gas prices, Arabs, Muslims, foreign countries, hughly prfoitable, mega-monolithic oil entities and more!!!

Why not? That's pretty much the theory behind gun control.

It's also the Klintoon approach to terrorism and we saw how well that worked.
