I was suprised about PETA getting involved and blaming the jockey saying Eight Belles got hurt right before the race.
PETA is a bunch of NUTS. Glenn Beck said the DEMS should ask for NATIONAL HORSE INSURANCE to help protect horses like 8 Bells. LOL

I don’t know that Eight Belles was injured before the Derby or that the jockey could have known even if she had been. In horse racing, injuries usually start out as micro fractures that get worse and are only noticeable when the horse is cooling down.
That being said; I did not think much of the jockey. He walked off from her almost immediately and didn’t really even try to pull her up when he noticed her galloping funny.
Horse racing REALLY needs to consider how to protect the legs of their athletes a little better than they do. The problem is horses are bred for speed and little else, so the legs are fast, but fragile. (Yet through all these “superior” breeding practices neither Man O’ War nor Secretariat have been recreated).
