I felt the same way, the first time I went to Red Rock Crossing. (Before it became a gated park.)

I used to go down there, and sit, enveloped by ‘my’ tree. I fit just perfectly in it’s trunk. I would just breathe in the fresh air, listen to the rush of the water, watch the changing colors of Cathedral Rock, and feel like I must be in heaven.

I had just come through Jerome and hiked the Mingus Mtn chute trail and we decided to continue to Sedona and it started getting late. We saw on the map this road would get us back to 17.

Up-hill with no problem. I suggest you take it to get to Sedona then take 89 into Flag the next day. It has some awesome lookouts. :^)
