“Since I was born in the “Hawaiian Territories”, does that make me ineligible? I don’t think so.”

>>This very same issue was raised with Barry Goldwater in 1964. Goldwater was born in Arizona in 1909 but Arizona didn’t become a state until 1912.

Interesting. I wasn’t familiar with Goldwater’s case. I’ve always been interested in this specific issue because I was born when MarineDad was stationed at Kaneohe, and Hawaii hadn’t become a state yet.

My entire life I’ve been told by everyone who has cared to give an opinion that the child of an American GI, who is born overseas because the GI is stationed overseas, is eligible to run for president. US Military bases are considered to be soverign US territory.

Isn’t that what McCain’s situation is?

Since Goldwater was not voted president, it did not become an issue.

You don't even have to be born on US territory, as long as one or both parents is a US citizen.

I perceive the answer to your question is in the details either worked out with the country in question; or simply by establishment clauses. I too am military brat, born in another country; and I've been informed (parents, etc.) all my life I am ineligible to run for President. I think there might be more involved than just the country of birth origin.

I wonder if Karen Hughes could run for President? She, also military offspring, born in France.
