Renewed Wright Imbroglio Exposes Fissures Among Black Voters
Real Clear Politics ^ | May 2nd, 2008 | Jonathan Tilove

Barack Obama's presidential campaign, until now, has benefited from a strong undercurrent of black nationalism among African-American voters, a racial pride and solidarity that have swelled support and muffled criticism.

But his repudiation this week of his longtime pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., may unleash a more open debate in the black community, where even some who back Obama worry that he is vague or evasive in his approach to race matters.

"In some ways it's a cathartic moment for African-Americans whose voices had been silenced," said Andra Gillespie, a political scientist at Emory University.

There is no reason to think Obama won't continue to roll up huge margins among blacks in the remaining Democratic primary contests -- beginning with Tuesday's primaries in North Carolina and Indiana. And most attention to the renewed Wright imbroglio will focus on its impact among whites. But this time, the controversy plainly exposes fissures that the black community had papered over with the common purpose of Obama's historic candidacy.

To many, Gillespie among them, Obama's problem is that he has never made explicit what, beyond symbolism, his election would do for black America. Now, he is rejecting Wright's racial agenda without having clearly articulated his own.

"The whole thing with Barack's campaign is making all the other black leadership be on mute," said Kevin Alexander Gray, an activist and writer in South Carolina. "The idea is that black people should just shut up and accept him as the prize of racial advancement with nothing given in return except him being the president."

What the he** is "black nationalism"? I thought nationalism had to do with loyalty to your country, not to a skin color, and they wonder why racism is alive and well.

This isn’t Africa. When the leader of a tribe wins the top government position in some African nations, it seems to be the habit of that tribe to then strip the nation of its wealth, to the detriment of everyone else. Is that what is meanst here in this statement?

If so, it is one damn scary moment!

I think the notion that black voices have been “silenced” in modern American politics is laughable.

Really? Other than Thomas Sowell's whispers, all I've heard from the "black community" is

. The crickets sound pretty, though.

You are absolutely right! The stakes could not be higher. Obama was created, handled, and promoted by Marxist opinionmakers, in association with Marxist tyrants like Zimbabwe’s Mugabe, Venezuela’s Chavez, Cuba’s Castro - all of whom in their quest for personal power brought the regular folks of their countries to abject ruin. Zimbabwe used to be a rich country - the bread basket of Africa. The Black nationalist Mugabe sent the white farmers from their own land, an act from which the country did not recover. The population is now starving and terrorized and the economical system non-functioning. Under Black Nationalist leaders there has been no redistribution of anything, just destruction, misery, and fear to speak.

Photobucket It's simply a matter of Barack trying to hide his true feelings about America and race...plain and simple. He's trying his hardest to keep from sounding too extreme in order to salvage as much of the white vote as possible.

So if, God forbid, Obama wins, he’ll be expected to have a government for the black people, by the black people? This is why voters would be hesitant to vote for a black man-there, I said it. Even if his intent was to be the President for all Americans, there is a group of blacks who would always expect his primary loyalty to be to “the black community”, rather than Americans as a whole, and they would be relentless about it. He would be expected by some blacks to weigh every decision in the balance of how it might affect blacks, and damn the rest of Americans. Maybe the second and third times we ever have a black President, this won’t be this case, but not this time nor with this candidate. He made that loud and clear, no matter how he tries to distance himself too late, by his long-standing relationship with and support of the likes of Wright.

I recall Oprah’s compelling and repeatedly-broadcast kick-off rally speech for BHO where she quoted a (black) author/playwright’s mystical soliloquy, ending with ...”are YOU the one?”

Yes, he’s the one all right...the scary one.

There is a difference between a "nation" and a "country". The USA used to be one "nation" of Americans with some small enclaves of other "nations" who did not regard themselves as Americans. Those relatively small nations of Blacks and Mexicans are now growing enough in political power to divide this country into separate "nations" at each others throats (literally in Los Angeles and other places). Add to this mess the "Nation of Islam" and we may have a civil war far more destructive than the 1861-65 North versus South war which killed only about 700 thousand Americans (out of 35 million).

.....But his e-mail identified something else he said made him uncomfortable: “Some supporters are so focused on the importance of Sen. Obama being the Democratic nominee for president,” Calderon wrote, “that they want to gloss over any controversy, with the attitude being, ‘Let’s get him nominated, then in office, and after that we’ll deal with the issue of race.’”
Indeed, “There’s a lot of winking going on in the Obama campaign,” said Glenn Loury, a Brown University economist who writes frequently about race......

These comments seem to describe what I’ve been observing. Obama hopes he can get through the primaries without being identified as a BLT advocate, but I don’t think he’s going to make it, even if the MSM won’t ask him directly. (They may in the near future.) When the mask is removed, his game will be over.

Maybe it's a renewal of the black movement that took place in the pre Civil War era to relocate to Liberia. I wonder if the Reverend Wright is aware that these previous American slaves, once in Liberia, quickly made slaves out of the indigenous people of Liberia...

This statement boggles everyone but the true rascit and pseudo oppressed mind: “The idea is that black people should just shut up and accept him as the prize of racial advancement with nothing given in return except him being the president.”
The Rats have made a huge attempt to perpetuate a Liar, Fraud and Enemy of the USA into the Presidency ever...Obama’s biggest lies are:
I have always been a Christian
I am Post Racial...
I never heard Rev. Wright say those things
I am a Constitutional Scholar
I don’t take contributions from Lobbyist
I never was a Muslim

Hey, Rev Wright nailed it, I guess. Then... that must mean nObama is attacking the Black Church!

I think Wright asked himself if Obama gets elected, what’s in it for me and concluded not much. It would certainly put a damper on the KKK of America thing. I think blacks are invested in keeping the race card alive and well. Helps them get what they want.
