(ID Congressman) Sali not ready for Mexican consulate

BOISE — U.S. Rep. Bill Sali of Idaho has asked Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to delay opening a Mexican consulate in Boise until the government can assure Idahoans that the office will not foster the continued presence of illegal immigrants in Idaho.

The request came in a letter sent Wednesday following a meeting Sali had with senior State Department officials.

In the meeting, department officials expressed considerably more concern about whether the consular office would follow local zoning laws than whether it would aid people in breaking federal immigration laws, according to a prepared statement from Sali’s office.

The Mexican consulate to be located in Boise has stirred controversy since it was announced earlier this year.

I saw this on Michelle Malkin’s site this morning. I fired off e-mails to Bill Salli to thank him for this letter to the Department of State and Congressman Simpson, Senator Craig (I know a waste of time), Senator Crapo, Governor Otter, and my District 22 Senator and Representatives. The last thing I want is another magnet for the illegal invaders in this state. It was bad enough when we caught several working out here at Mountain Home AFB for a base contractor a few summers ago.

I would say Craig and Simpson are both wastes of time, but I think a lot of FReepers would be interested in hearing what Sali's GOP RINO Challenger Matt Salisbury has to say on the subject:

"I understand the issues he's raising with illegal immigration, but I don’t know that addressing it through challenging a consulate that's part of our various treaties and the State Department's work is the right avenue I'd pursue."

So make sure Sali runs up the score in the GOP primaries here in a few weeks...

I believe you are the most recent keepers of any illegal immigration ping list(s). Some potential fodder...

Our State Department is staffed with leftist pukes who think Kumbaya should be the national anthem.

That reason, among many others, was one reason why this news put a smile on my face. Anyone that tells the State Dept. to stick it where the alfalfa doesn’t grow is fine by me.

Bill Sali bump!

Bill is one of the finest men I’ve met in politics. The Left hates him, which is always a good sign.

There are currently only 18 states (+DC) with Mexican consulates.

Look for one to pop up in every state in the near future.

This is an example of why it was such a dumb idea to change the method of election of the US Senate from election by the state legislatures to direct popular election. A hundred years ago, the state legislature had a lot more leverage in Washington, DC than it does today. Nowadays the senators conspire together to weaken the state governments rather than protect them.

Sali has a bright future ahead of him if he keeps these kinds of things up. I would have to think at some point down the road he could take a shot at one of the Senate seats or maybe even governor...

Senate. He’s a gifted, experienced legislator, not an executive type.
