House committee threatens Rove with subpoena

The House Judiciary Committee threatened Thursday to subpoena former White House adviser Karl Rove if he does not agree by May 12 to testify about former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman's corruption case.

In a letter to Rove's attorney, committee Democrats called it "completely unacceptable" that the Republican political strategist has rejected the panel's request for sworn testimony even as he discusses the matter publicly through the media.

"We can see no justification for his refusal to speak on the record to the committee," the letter states. "We urge you and your client to reconsider ... or we will have no choice but to consider the use of compulsory process."

Committee Democrats are investigating whether Rove and Republican appointees at the Justice Department influenced Siegelman's prosecution to kill his chances for re-election. It is part of a broader inquiry into whether U.S. attorneys were fired for not aggressively pursuing cases against Democrats.

Siegelman, a Democrat who served one term as governor after being elected in 1998, was convicted in 2006 on bribery and other charges and sentenced to more than seven years in prison. He was recently released on bond pending appeal.

The ONLY thing RATS know how to do are to have investigations and to hold their stupid oversight committees. Henry Waxman never leaves the room where they are holding his oversight committees. I swear, they don't know how to do anything else.

That's the problem of having so many unemployed lawyers in the government. LOL

Has the Democrat House Caucus done anything about the Representative from Louisiana (New Orleans) caught with 100K in his refrigerator? THAT is a slam dunk compared to this fishing expedition. Rove doesn't want to play the part of the fish.

How many times does this old horse have to be flogged before it dies?

Let us assume the eight attorneys were fired for the reason stated. Makes no difference as U.S. attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President. He can fire any/all of them at any time for nothing or something.

The DBM seems to have forgotten the bloodbath Mr. Clinton instigated when he was first elected by firing 93 attorneys.

More here.

This is nothing more than HATE BUSH propaganda.

Ahhh - sooo - if I see someone committing a crime, I report it, that person is found, indeed, to've committed the crime and is so adjudged, now I can be charged because I reported it?

Yep. Sounds like libRat reasoning to me...

Conservatives running for Senate and House seats all over the country need to unite in running against the "do nothing, good for nothing" democRat Congress.

We are at war with terrorists. How does the democRat Congress respond? Political investigations and witch hunts.

The economy is tanking. How does the democRat Congress respond? Political investigations and witch hunts.

Gasoline is approaching $4 per barrel. Foreclosures are at record highs. Food prices are skyrocketing. Bio-fuel subsidies are causing millions around the world to starve. How does the democRat Congress respond? Political investigations and witch hunts.

I'm telling you, this could have legs.

The Dems, after getting control of the House and Senate for the last two years, haven't done a thing on the legislative side except attempt to persecute Republicans in any way and to make the U. S. lose the war against terror.

The result is that the economy has gone to hell. This has occurred on the legislative watch of the House and Senate - and the majority party in these should be held to account.
