I've actually never ate a smallie, I'd feel too guilty eating them so I've always thrown them back.

I love perch, crappie and bluegills. I even fillet them for fish sandwiches. (small querk of mine) Us inferior mid-staters who don't get pike or walleye have to adjust somehow...psst, I actually hate eating LM’s, my fishin buddies eat it all day, I'll usually have a burger instead.

Well I’m sitting at just under a quarter tank right now. I dread going to fill up. It’ll be over 50.00. I remember when I could fill up my Honda for 10 bucks. Those days are long gone.

Yeah, I hear ya’. Smallies are really becoming plentiful around here. We got into some nice sized ones last year (2-3 lbs.) What a battle! I'm not real big on eating smallies — they're very rich, like trout and can be oily. Suitable for smoking. In my opinion, smallies are the best fighters.

We fish almost exclusively for panfish (perch, bluegills, crappie, etc.) but will go for northern pike when I get hungry for seviche.
