Fire in the Night The Weathermen tried to kill my family.
City Journal ^ | 4/30/08 | John M. Murtagh

...Obama’s answer: “The notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was eight years old, somehow reflects on me and my values, doesn’t make much sense, George.” Obama was indeed only eight in early 1970. I was only nine then, the year Ayers’s Weathermen tried to murder me.

In February 1970, my father, a New York State Supreme Court justice, was presiding over the trial of the so-called “Panther 21,” members of the Black Panther Party indicted in a plot to bomb New York landmarks and department stores.

Only a few weeks after the attack, the New York contingent of the Weathermen blew themselves up making more bombs in a Greenwich Village townhouse. The same cell had bombed my house, writes Ron Jacobs in The Way the Wind Blew: A History of the Weather Underground. And in late November that year, a letter to the Associated Press signed by Bernardine Dohrn, Ayers’s wife, promised more bombings.

Article ends with ...At the conclusion of his 2001 Times interview, Ayers said of his upbringing and subsequent radicalization: “I was a child of privilege and I woke up to a world on fire.”

Funny thing, Bill: one night, so did I.

Has the statute of limitations run out for this man to sue ayers and his wife in civil court- a la OJ?

Is their a statue of limitations on attempted murder or Terrorist actions to commit murder? We know they killed some Police and Guards and may have been responsible for other murders but they were NEVER brought to trial: WHY???? OH! Because they were Democrats and Communist and worship the god or the Democrats Joseph Stalin.

I'm so glad these true victims are speaking out. I hope America listens. Too bad the Left is so busy creating victims out of the flimsiest of wrongs or even imagined wrongs, they wouldn't know a real victim if one spoke up about how the Weathermen tried to kill her as a nine-year-old.

Barack Obama saying this - that since 40 years have passed, destable acts are irrelevant -- is nonsensical. If Hilter were still alive, since 40 years have passed, hanging out with him would be fine? But hanging out with Jeffrey Daumer wouldn't be fine, since 40 years haven't passed. Some violence is acceptable? Domestic terrorism is fine and dandy, even vaguely acceptable?

Perhaps his real message is that any violence committed in the name of global commie revolution is cool. Is anybody awake?

If it’s OK for Obama and other black activists to talk about slavery that happened over 100 years ago, it’s OK for us to talk about his Marxist terrorist friend’s acts from 40 years ago.

Barack and his ilk are still ranting about wrongs committed against blacks for last 200yrs.
Guess if you are the right class of victim detestable acts are relevant no matter when they happened.

Also these detestable acts are not taught in public schools.
And to discuss in polite company is frowned upon.

I too am glad someone who was affected by these terrorist actions is speaking out.

No. Ayers family was rich, Democrat party connected, and could afford to hire the best legal advice money could buy.

Bill Ayers got off because he turned himself in voluntarily; it was due to some kind of plea deal where he never went to trial or served time.

I think it sucks.

Never went to trial because the eviodence against him was the result of illegal FBI wiretapping [RFK taught them well], and was going to be surpressed. The Feds dismissed the charges.

You wrote: “it was due to some kind of plea deal “

There was no plea deal.

“After the death of his girlfriend, Ayers and his current wife, Bernardine Dohrn, spent the 1970s as fugitives running from the FBI. In 1980 the two surrendered, but all charges against them were dropped due to an “improper surveillance” technicality. Ayers’ comment on his life, as reported by Peter Collier and David Horowitz in their authoritative chapter on Weatherman in Destructive Generation, is this: “Guilty as sin, free as a bird, America is a great country.”

Don't miss this article by John M. Murtagh, who was a 9-year-old kid when Obama's "friends" -- the Weathermen -- bombed his family's home in the middle of the night...

Excerpt:

In February 1970, my father, a New York State Supreme Court justice, was presiding over the trial of the so-called “Panther 21,” members of the Black Panther Party indicted in a plot to bomb New York landmarks and department stores. Early on the morning of February 21, as my family slept, three gasoline-filled firebombs exploded at our home on the northern tip of Manhattan, two at the front door and the third tucked neatly under the gas tank of the family car. (Today, of course, we’d call that a car bomb.)

-snip-

The same night, bombs were thrown at a police car in Manhattan and two military recruiting stations in Brooklyn. Sunlight, the next morning, revealed three sentences of blood-red graffiti on our sidewalk: FREE THE PANTHER 21; THE VIET CONG HAVE WON; KILL THE PIGS.

-snip-

Though no one was ever caught or tried for the attempt on my family’s life, there was never any doubt who was behind it. Only a few weeks after the attack, the New York contingent of the Weathermen blew themselves up making more bombs in a Greenwich Village townhouse. The same cell had bombed my house, writes Ron Jacobs in The Way the Wind Blew: A History of the Weather Underground. And in late November that year, a letter to the Associated Press signed by Bernardine Dohrn, Ayers’s wife, promised more bombings...
