Members of Congress say they overreached by pushing ethanol on consumers and will move to roll back federal supports for it — the latest sure signal that Congress' appetite for corn-based ethanol has collapsed as food and gas prices have shot up.
House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer said Democrats will use the pending farm bill to reduce the subsidy, while Republicans are looking to go further, rolling back government rules passed just four months ago that require blending ethanol into gasoline.

They weren’t in bed with anyone, Congress passed a mandate. Even people who disagreed invested based on that mandate. I’m not one of them by the way.

Funny how the US Congress can blindly rush to enact sweeping legislation to alter the very trajectory of the free market economy that pits the supermarket against the gas pump with all the abandon of choosing a high school yearbook cover, and when it proves to be a disastrous exercise in social engineering, they expect to evade responsibility with an “oops...”.
Further supporting my contention that ethanol fuel requirements wouldn't exist in the first place if Iowa was one of the LAST scheduled primary/caucus states instead of one of the FIRST.
A while back,I asked congress here to put a moratoreum on the biofuel waste of food and taxes at least until the 2012 presidential competitions begin.
The burnimg corn scam will be back if Iowa stays first in the pres race.
Since the race is now a two year one,we have a little relief from this anti-American insanity for two years as well.
The RNC and DNC should think about the country and make Hawaii the first presidential caucus or primary state.

In a way I can't blame GWB, he knew what he be up against in Congress and he needed another fuel. I am waiting for the 2nd gen Ethanol from grasses and waste with outputs projected up to 7 times higher. But my big concern is are the existing refineries compatable to these feedstocks? SO far I have heard no, tell me I am wrong here.
Pretty soon the chickens will come home to roost for the likes of the Sierra Club and all their blocking everything for 20 years, and when people wake up they may be very pi$$ed.
Maybe, just maybe someone will listen to T Boone Pickens that the true alternative fuel are CNG/LPG/Propane. I keep busting my auto engr friends, where is my Escape and or Volt that will run on a Propane ?
It has less energy. It wastes most people’s gas mileage.
I doubt eliminating corn whisky from our gasoline will have much of an affect of price. I’ll even regain that 10% I lost in mpg when it was added.
