Albert Hofmann, the father of the mind-altering drug LSD whose medical discovery grew into a notorious illicit substance, died Tuesday. He was 102.
Hofmann died of a heart attack at his home in Basel, Switzerland, according to Rick Doblin, president of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, in a statement posted on the association's website.
His death was confirmed to the Associated Press by Doris Stuker, a clerk in the village of Burg im Leimental, where Hofmann moved following his retirement in 1971.
Hofmann's hallucinogen inspired and arguably corrupted millions in the 1960s psychedelic era. For decades after LSD was banned in the late 1960s, Hofmann defended his invention.
"I produced the substance as a medicine.
It's not my fault if people abused it," he once said.

His last words “Groovy, man!”
????
Hofmann defended his invention. It's not an invention, it's a discovery.
Probably more like "Where's my damn flashbacks?"
Have a nice trip.
U so funny. lol
There's two kinds of acid ... the LIFE magazine kind, and the stuff that stops you in your tracks to marvel at your own thoughts and perception(s).
Are they positive he died, or could it be that he’s simply in an altered state?
He tuned it, he turned on, and now he’s dropped out . . . for good.
What a long, strange trip it’s been!
Thats it, give all the folks at Gitmo LSD, and listen to what they say.
The liberal answer to waterboarding. Chemical interrogation.
I always thought a discovery was always existed and an invention was the building of some thing from different components, compounds etc.LSD was not one single ingredient but a group combined to form L.S.D.Not a single ingredient that was discovered....hence an INVENTION.
LSD My Problem Child By Dr Albert Hofmann is a great read.
(T)RIP
I’m pretty sure that while LSD-like compounds exist in nature, when Hofmann was experimenting and “discovered” it, it was one of a number of substances which had been synthesized. Thus, describing it as an invention would not be entirely inaccurate. In much the same way, although salicylic acid exists naturally in willow bark, for example, ASA was an invention of chemists, who synthesized it from, IIRC, coal tar.
Over my head....”Now where’d I leave that blotter?”
Here's one!
I've never done illegal drugs, I've never taken a prescription pain killer.
Other than asprin, I've only had antibiotics or medically applied anestitia for a couple of operations, toothe extracton etc....
However, I do enjoy a nice glass of wine with dinner or a Pina Colda on the beach.
Just never got into illegal drugs.
I have tried just about everything more than once and said thanks I will take some more. Thank God I do not live that life anymore.
I’d bet it worked for interrogation, only, they probably didn’t want to hear what the person was saying after a while! :)
