It came to me while I was having dinner with Doris Day. No, not that Doris Day. The Doris Day who is married to Col. Bud Day, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, fighter pilot, Vietnam POW and roommate of John McCain at the Hanoi Hilton.
As we ate near the Days' home in Florida recently, I heard things about Sen. McCain that were deeply moving and politically troubling. Moving because they told me things about him the American people need to know. And troubling because it is clear that Mr. McCain is one of the most private individuals to run for president in history.
When it comes to choosing a president, the American people want to know more about a candidate than policy positions. They want to know about character, the values ingrained in his heart. For Mr. McCain, that means they will want to know more about him personally than he has been willing to reveal.
Mr. Day relayed to me one of the stories Americans should hear. It involves what happened to him after escaping from a North Vietnamese prison during the war. When he was recaptured, a Vietnamese captor broke his arm and said, "I told you I would make you a cripple."

Stop it!
You don’t know what you are talking about, so I suggest you leave the military awards in Viet Nam discussion to others.
I’m pretty sure you will attack me now, though.
Did your suckup company clerk get tortured until he couldnt get his arms over his head?”
I personally don’t believe McCain was tortured.
McCain became embittered by his experience in the 2000 race. It is not to his credit that he let it impact his political philosophy.
I was in AZ for 14 years during his time and he was known as quite the hothead. That is a quality when it comes to a man in charge of my Country. He will become an effective leader, I believe, If given the chance. I base this on his character.
Read the biography “Boyd” and you’ll see that it’s not just a stereotype. In any case, no one who says it is looking to slander our fighting men.
MARTIAL MONK:
My comments were not directed at you. My response was meant for someone else.
You have NO idea how much I agree with your post!
He is a very bitter man.
However, I hope he will “recover” the man he used to be.
He was a good friend and conservative at one time.
Go ahead and google “pocketa, pocketa, pocketa” and the mystery will solve itself, grasshopper.
Personally, I don't care for any of the three - I've been intending to create an image depicting each candidate, with an empty check mark box next to each, and an = (image of America flushing down the toilet). I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
On this topic, I've also plans for an image of a spray can of Obamosol brand "Goddammusol" aerosol spray - the Wright stuff for America. Marxist Racist Socialism in an easy to apply can. Warning: contents under pressure.
You may as well go live on Mars, because you are completely detached from reality on this planet.
There will be no other Republican nominee. Get over it.
If you dislike McCain that much, by all means, vote for Obama.
The story speaks well of a young man, a brother, stuck in hell trying to hang onto life.... with honor.
Should I vote for him, it will be because I believe at that time, that is there is nothing else I can do that was right for my county.
If he picks that freak Huckbeeee for his running mate, then I will turn my back to him... and NEVER look back.
He does need to wise up and man up if he wants to win.
Oh, I get it now.
You think McCain is like Walter Mitty.
That’s not very nice of you, Obewan.
Huh?
Stop it! You dont know what you are talking about, so I suggest you leave the military awards in Viet Nam discussion to others.
On what grounds do you say I don't know what I'm talking about and on what grounds are you personally an authority on Vietnam Era awards to naval officers?
Am I any less deluded than you?
Four months is an eternity in politics. Ask Obama.
Be a nose holder if you wish.
There are four months left to save the country. Choose your course of action wisely.
Ah. Well, let's change the subject.
Did I mention that you look quite handsome in your new hat?
So basically he’s the Audie Murphy of the Vietnam war? If you can’t believe Col. Day, who in the world can you believe?!
BTW, my late father served in the 9th Defense Battalion in WWII and later was in communications in Korea and Vietnam.
If only Bud Day had stayed in the Marine Corps. Then he really might have amounted to something...:)
Oh, another insult.
Gee thanks.
I bow in deference to your intellectual brilliance.
