A second American aircraft carrier steamed into the Persian Gulf Tuesday as the Pentagon ordered military commanders to develop new options for attacking Iran. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports that the planning is being driven by what one officer called the "increasingly hostile role" Iran is playing in Iraq - smuggling weapons into Iraq for use against American troops.

Don’t think they aren’t! And don’t forget the MS-13 are on terrorist payroll.

Not drilling for oil domestically is a very costly miscalculation of national security.
Not as costly as depleting our supply when we can still buy oil on the free market. I'd rather deplete our enemies' supply of oil and keep ours in reserve.
Why use your own finite resource when you can buy someone else's? In the end, once it's gone, it's gone, and I'd rather have the last reserves rather than have to beg someone else to sell me their last reserves.

We need a Patton on the iranian border. He would start a war with them and make it look like they started it. Then Patton would be in Tehran in less then 24 hours.

Right. It'll never happen. It's impossible. Keep dreaming kiddo. The more fools there are that think it's impossible, the more POSSIBLE it becomes. Just like the mortgage meltdown we just had. Oil will never be $120/barrel right?
Who's delusional?

What normally happens in that 48 hours is a turnover of certain types of weapons from one carrier to the other.

The USA is winning in Iraq. Mookie Al Sadr is defeated, the Shiite Militias are on the run. The iranian plan of undermining the democratically elected Iraqui government has failed, and Maliki may have become an Iraqi patriot.
All this is bad news for Iran's Revolutionary Guard who saw a hegemony including Syria disolve with last Septembers Israeli strike against a nuclear reactor that was proven to have N. Korean and Iranian staff support. North Korea was brought up short, and to the "disarmament" table. The Iranians will take years to recoup in Syria. The Iranians have nothing they can do now but attack US soldiers with their own military inside of Iraq.
If Iran does not pull back on its illegal activity, then we can indeed expect a limited operation to destroy the supply lines which have brought ordnance and Iranian personnel into Iraq. The intelligence data of Iranian involvement is quite irrefutable and has been gathered for a long time, including de-briefings of Iranian officers apprehended inside of Iraq.
The threat of force seems to be the only thing that gets Iran's attention, and Iran's reaction has been to attempt to provoke military incidents or conflict at times and places of Iran's chosing.
Now Iran knows that the military response is coming, and the waiting is actually driving them quite crazy, mistakes are being made by the Iranians as a consequence.
Interesting US strategy. This whole thing has the mark of Dick Cheny upon it, and thank goodness we have him!

The problem with Iraq is that we are trying to “nation build”. We could send Iran back 50 years in about 10 minutes if we wished. We don’t need to occupy, just punish.
