I worked in Insurance for a long time and he’s correct on a great deal of this......costly over-regulation and each State has it’s own governmental department...lots of fingers in the pie. I’d be happy if the proposed “pool” was only for “Catastophic” events and we all could get group rates for it. Can’t imagine why a move like that would cost $7 billion........

Hmmm, all three are alike....so what choice do I have? Also, let us not forget, McCain believes in Global Warming...Oh!... Does this mean Al Gore will be his running mate? Interesting!!

"Why should I be FORCED to buy something for someone else when I do not buy it for myself?"

You shouldn't, but you do, because that's how socialism creeps into each and every persons life. Starts with welfare and public schools, the basic social needs of society. Then the demand for more and more of it keeps creeping in.

The Socialist argument is that you are actually buying your own "insurance" plan, it's just a large collective plan that forces the entire population to buy a premium from one insurer- the government.

That wouldn't be so bad if everyone paid into it. What happens however, is those who refuse to work DON"T pay into the plan, and the numbers of those who use it often don't pay into the plan, or make very low wages and don't have to pay into the plan, but use and abuse the plan often.

We'd be far better off if we didn't allow ourselves to fall into that society trap, and have everyone pay into their own savings/insurance plan, and maintain as taxpayers a basic social saftey net for those very few who simply need medical attention through no fault of their own.

Betwen minminal social safety nets and generous charitable donations of a Christian society, things worked out fairly well in this country until recently, some of that decay which has occured brought on by the constant attacks against our Christian society and erosion of moral responsibilities.

You’re right. Here in AZ we’ve actaully seen hospitals closed because they are forced to treat so many people that can’t pay.
Almost all States have “high-risk” insurance pools for motorists with lots of tickets....this could work the same way for health care..and the MORE people in the pool....and consistant State application of the rules....the risk per person is spread around and costs go down.
Insurance is already VERY regulated by our State govenment...the Feds just need to get them on the same page.

You object to this reasonable proposal? Why? People without health insurance COST me far more than people with health coverage because:

1. They don't seek preventative illness measures but then go to the hospital when they are really sick.

2. By law, hospitals cannot turn anyone away who cannot pay; costing both you and me.

3. By making insurance affordable through tax credits, McCain would be helping to reduce these costs.

4. There is an economic advantage when more premium-paying people are in a health insurance plan.

They recently did a study on this in England and they found out that, in the long run, almost everything you mentioned above costs far more than having people uninsured. In cold, cruel government terms it boiled down to this: Uninsured people get sick and die. Healthy, insured folks live longer and end up costing a fortune in long term care and medications to keep them alive as long as possible.

John McCain is debating John McCain. He is all over the map. Today he takes this position, yesterday it was something else, and tomorrow who knows.

He managed to exempt family corporate jets from his finance reforms. And creepy Cindy just happened to have access to a corporate jet.

I wish there was some undiscovered land out there we could all go and start a new life, based independance, individualism, and limited government...maybe we all move to the upper midwest and let the liberals have the coasts. Where did our nation go wrong? Was it the combination of slavery and open borders...that left us with a large dependant minority?

Oh, you mean the AZ that's swamped with illegals seeking healthcare? You mean the AZ that Juan McCain represents and who champions shamnesty for the very illegals that shut down your hospitals? THAT AZ? LOL!

"Can’t imagine why a move like that would cost $7 billion......."

Peanuts. It's cost would be more like 1-2 trillion for about 30 million people. And only if it's for Catastophic” events as you propose.

(you can't exclude the cost of the system that is already there) Canada's crappy system costs around 1.6 trillion a year for 33 million people. ($4867 for each and every person x33million) It doesn't cover dental, extras like wheelchairs, braces, pharmacy. Eye care. it's only used by about 10% of those who pay for it, and about the same number don't pay for it at all. Expensive huh? about 50% of the population pay for all of the countries health care (and that is a very generous number. It's probably much less than that.)

I’m sitting back waiting to see who is VP pick is and honestly unless he picks a true Conservative.... I can’t vote for him.

Same here. Honestly, I just can't handle socialism lite, even in the face of the real thing.

We are so screwed this year, it's pathetic.

Yes we are. We have a choice however, to keep it a republican dominated government, and hopefully the house and senate will restrain a further slide into Europeon type socialism.

McCain, like it or not, is the least worst of the three. By NOT voting, you give the other worst a better chance of winning

Tell me it is a joke that John McCain will chose Hillary who is hard at work to prevent Barack Hussein Obama from winning in November.

“I say “good”. I want to see socialized medicine as soon as possible. I also want to see all of the proposed programs by the candidates get enacted as soon as possible. I want to see the incredibily huge federal government get even bigger and more bloated along with all of the state governments. I want more illegal immigrants streaming over the border and I want them here now.

And then I want to see the total collapse of our country in my life time while I’m still young enough to enjoy it.

Then we start over again.”

It appears you may just get your wish.

I have been hoping that McCain just might move a little to the right to shore up his base, but it appears his head is too far up his ASK for that to happen.

McCain is suggesting government funded, highly regulated, non-profit organization provide health insurance to those who "can't afford it".

How is that any different that government run health care other than he tossed in the term "non-profit"?

It's also more of the wealth redistribution that seems to be at the core of his policies he's suggesting lately.

There keeps being more and more evidence that what he really didn't like about Bush's Medicare prescription drug plan was that it treated everyone the same regardless of income.
