David Gergen on CNN: The Media Needs to 'Move On' From Rev. Wright Issue

Later in the segment on CNN’s "Newsroom" between Tony Harris, David Gergen, and Roland Martin after the Reverend Jeremiah Wright speech at the National Press Club (which Mark Finkelstein blogged about earlier), Gergen suggested that "it’s time for him [Rev. Wright] to get off the stage, and frankly, for the media, I suggest, to move on." He also twice characterized the whole affair as a "sideshow" [audio available here].

Shortly after a commercial break which came in the middle of the discussion, Gergen, in response to a question from "Newsroom" co-host Tony Harris, said of Rev. Wright, "Every time he appears, he just gives legitimacy and a hunger by those who oppose Barack Obama to re-run those tapes, to keep him at the center of controversy, to let this overhang and define Barack Obama, when it has, you know -- it has very, very little to do -- it's a very marginal piece of who Barack Obama is and what he stands for."

Gergen then talked about how the Rev. Wright issue was a distraction, and how the preacher should have handled himself after the controversy broke, all the while heaping praise on him, and at the end, making his "move on" suggestion.

There are litterally thousands of lurkers who come to FR each day. They visit one ot two threads and then move on. Many are visiting our Obama threads, so I try and put it on as many of those as I can.

I kow it is monotonous for those reading all the threads and I apologize for that, but I am not doing it for long time, or regular freepers. I know they already know the score.

I am doing it to get good info out to others, and I am getting many, many emails, fremails, and posts from lurkers thanking me for the information.

So, I will continue to get that info out there for those folks who otherwise may not see it.

I will also, when the time is right, begin a campaign targeting Hillary. But right now, the negatives on Hillary are still higher and I honestly believe she is likely to lose in this thing to Obama. Her staying in and tearing away at Obama is good towards both ends now.

Gergen is a sad example of what a conservative becomes when he wants to be thought of as "reasonable" by the MSM. Such a person becomes, not a useful idiot, but a useless idiot.

As for the Wright/Obama connection, I think Wright was telling the truth today when he said that Obama privately agrees with him on most of these things. So Wright is NOT an incidental sideshow to who Obama is; he is a window into the soul of the real Obama.

Obama has tried to sell himself as a "uniter," yet he has quietly sat in the pews for 20 years as Wright spewed his venom. Obama MUST have agreed with most of it. Further evidence of that is Obama's own condescending comments about people "clinging to guns and religion" because of their economic plight. Those were not the comments of a uniter.
