A similar law was passed in Arizona a few years ago, it probably helped in some areas. The voter fraud is ongoing, the left was committing voter fraud with early ballots, long before the law was passed.

I would prefer that all states go to the Photo ID requirement.

States That Request Photo ID
Florida
Georgia
Hawaii
Indiana
Louisiana
Michigan
South Dakota

Can someone tell me why it's so hard for “women and minorities” to obtain a photo ID? Even if one has no drivers license you can still get a photo ID through the state. Oh wait, that would take initiative, money, and proper birth certificate.

Never mind!

Here you all go, more info on the 6-3 breakdown.
Writing the court's lead opinion, Justice John Paul Stevens said states have a ``valid interest in protecting the integrity and reliability of the electoral process.''

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Anthony Kennedy, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito joined Stevens in the majority. Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, David Souter and Stephen Breyer dissented.

The RATS will go apoplectic. This opens the door for Photo ID laws in every state :-)

(This isn't up yet on the SCOTUS website.)

Will somebody please explain to me why minority races, poor people, and older persons would be less likely to vote if photographic ID’s are required at the polls.

I already understand how easy it must be for fraudulent votes to be cast, I just don’t get why anyone would object to the requirement for positive identification.

Common sense prevails.

It would be no hardship for anyone to vote and have a thumb print taken at the same time.

Yep.

Show up to the polling place.

Show your photo ID

It matches

You vote

Show up to the polling place

No photo ID?

No vote.

What’s the problem????

in this article http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080428/ap_on_go_su_co/scotus_voter_id they call the 6-3 ruling a "splintered" ruling... no bias there in trying to call it close decision?? heh... loser!

Score another victory for common-sense and conservatism!

This may turn out to be the best SCOTUS in the last 100 years!

But I am still holding my breath for the DC Gun Ban Vote...........

“Democrats and civil rights groups say the law would deter poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots.”

It will also keep the dead people from voting!

They don’t want to ensure the integrity of the voting process, yet the Democrats want to give driver’s licenses to everyone.

The voter ID issue demonstrates how disengenious the left is more than anything else. These same liberals have no problem with demanding photo IDs to purchase a gun, open a checking account, buy a dog or even walk into a government school.

If all the states had that rule, the dumb-o-crats would lose all their dead voters.

EXCELLENT NEWS!

Now, we need to pass a law in CA that requires ID to vote.

I know, I know...”good luck!”
