The usual chorus of environmentalists and editorial writers has chimed in to attack President Bush's recent speech on climate change. In his address of April 23, he put forth a goal of stopping the growth of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2025.
"Way too little and way too late," runs the refrain, followed by the claim that nothing less than an 80% reduction in emissions by the year 2050 will suffice what I call the "80 by 50" target. Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have endorsed it. John McCain is not far behind, calling for a 65% reduction.
We all ought to reflect on what an 80% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050 really means. When we do, it becomes clear that the president's target has one overwhelming virtue: Assuming emissions curbs are even necessary, his goal is at least realistic.

First question: Why do this?
The Best Global Warming Videos on the Internet |
They are doing this because they are pagans and want to worship the Earth god. Mankind has had no effect of climate change. Climate change is caused by the Sun.
Why, indeed? I live in western Wisconsin and it is snowing this very minute. We have two inches of snow on the ground, so far.
I can vouch for that.
Where’s that darn “global warming” when you want it?
GE lobbyists have replaced the trial lawyers as the most powerfull in DC.
What other corporation could hold the patent of a product (the swirly neon light)and then bribe congress to make it the only light fixture that may be legally bought?
GE is only getting started in having Congress mandate the purchase of products from it’s other “green monopolies.”
GE embodies the entire environmentalist moonbats out to force socialism on America.
GE=Green Extremists.
Exactly! Stupid, AlGore!
Yeah, and here in Ohio it’s going to below freezing this week.
We’re supposed to be in the 50s and 60s this week. I would say that the fight to end Global Warming has been a success. Someone should send out a memo.
General Electric has admitted that it has contracts in Syria and Iran for electric power plants, oil and gas, lighting, and medical equipment (that latter is humanitarian stuff not subject to sanctions and no one is citing them). GE claims that none of it is being used for military purposes by Iranian forces or Syrian forces.
Apparently, General Electric either does not get or care that Iran has been violating international law for 30 years with impunity. Iran has engaged in proxy wars through its terrorist arm Hezbollah and through its Revolutionary Guards. It has kidnapped and killed American citizens and the citizens of its neighbors. It has provided foreign fighters, arms, and money to fight the US and Coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. It defies the international community in its pursuit of nuclear weapons. It declared war on the US its enemy and advocates its destruction, along with Israel
When we see Mahmoud Ahmadinejad calling for death to America and watch Iranian fast boats charging US Navy ships, we see the enemy. General Electric sees a customer in good standing.
Well, this weekend, it showed up in Northern California. It was 85, sunny and no humidity both days over the weekend. I got lots of yardwork done and planted a lot of flowers.
Of course, you have to put up with the most extreme liberal idiocy and anti-business climate in the nation to get this weather...
You know, to the average joe that sounds like a lot of "greenhouse gas". But it is almost never put into perspective relative to all the other so-called "greenhouse gases". CO2 is but a trace element in the atmosphere and has no effect on warming as far as I have been able to determine. So why bother with this nonsense?
Why? Because CO2 is the only way to link industrialized society to the theory of Global Warming. Without this link there is no basis to do anything with large organizations like the UN, or EU. Control of the world’s economy, is the ultimate goal.
CO2 is .038 % of the atmosphere. You never hear that number. It is less than Argon as a component of the air we breathe. And yet it is absolutely critical to all life. We’d all die without it. Every carbon atom in every living thing was once in CO2. There were no doubt eras when the CO2 content in the atmosphere was far higher than it is now. We and all other living things survived.
We may not survive the assault on the energy-based world we need to support the 6.6 billion who inhabit the planet today.
I’m jealous! I haven’t had any decent summers for three years at least - So ready to PLAY this year!
I WANT MY GLOBAL WARMING!!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I think it is just possible to make an 80% cut if we reduce the economy back to what was in the 1880’s and eliminate 60% of the population.
