WASHINGTON (AP) - Boating season is approaching.

And the Bush administration wants to enlist the country's 80 million recreational boaters to help reduce the chances that a small boat could deliver a deadly weapon somewhere along the country's 95,000 miles of coastline and inland waterways.

Letter of Marque?

They can’t do it by themselves. It’s as simple as that. They just can’t

What an asshole. In nearly eight years this jackass couldn’t get 2,000 miles of our border under control, but he can get 95,000 miles of rivers under control.

I wonder if Bush has any idea what a stupid clown he has proven himself to be.

It doesn’t take C4 to get a “ferry” to go down near that locale.

A 5 gallon pail of thermite would burn through the hull of ANY ship even if ignited on the uppermost deck, and it is cheap and easy to make.

But seriously ,, Bush wants the borders open for illegals (north and south) and to enrich his drug dealing buddies in the Mexican gov’t but he wants average citizens to do the job of protecting the country that he is actively fighting against the Border Patrol about.

All I can say is QUE?

80 million recreational boaters

With record gas prices, you're going to see most of those boaters partying at the dock and not on the "high seas".......

The idea, if I've read the article correctly, is to have recreational boaters be on the alert for unusual boat activity and report it to authorities. Not attemp to apprehend anyone on your own.

Just another pain in the A$$ for recreational boaters . Another $$$ maker for the fed and state govt. to make sure us little guys comply with regulations . Let me carry firepower in my boat LEGALLY and that will help deter any terrorism I see about to happen . Wait till you see the new regs .

How stupid is it to ask boaters to keep an eye out for middle eastern types on the great lakes or any water way for that matter.

How do you know they havent had some sort of intel bring them to this point.

If, after an attack, they found that the device came from the lakes, and that they had foreknowledge

you would likely be the first screaming "Bush you idiot".

Oh, puleeze. Jorge and Amigos would do better looking at the wide open land borders where bad guys merely need to drive across. Better yet, start looking within the borders because they’re already here.

That may include requiring boat operators to have a copy of the safety certification on board with them and a piece of identification that links them to the certificate. That's important, security officials say, because currently there is no uniform requirement for pleasure boaters to have identification on board with them on the water.

This coming from somone who halfasses border security?

Good morning RabidRalph. I do have Bibles. I don’t talk about what weapons I do or do not have on the forum.

Good Lord bud, are you that dense? I’ve got no problem with making our waterways safe, but what the hell does that accomplish while we allow tens of thousands of Saudi Arabians to enter our nation on student visas, considering what 19 of them did?

And what good does it do when we allow 20 to 35 million illegal aliens to roam our nation and won’t get our border under control?

Do you disagree?
