[Democrat] Party Fears Racial Divide
Washington Post ^ | 26 April 2008 | By Jonathan Weisman and Matthew Mosk

Posted on 04/26/2008 2:27:48 AM PDT by shrinkermd

Clinton's solid win in the Pennsylvania primary exposed a quandary for the party. Her backers may be convinced that only she can win the white, working-class voters that the Democratic nominee will need in the general election, but many African American leaders say a Clinton nomination -- handed to her by superdelegates -- would result in a disastrous breach with black voters.

"If this party is perceived by people as having gone into a back room somewhere and brokered a nominee, that would not be good for our party," House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (S.C.), the highest ranking African American in Congress, warned yesterday. "I'm telling you, if this continues on its current course, [the damage] is going to be irreparable."

That fear, plus a more general sense that Clinton's only route to victory would be through tearing down her opponent, has led even some black Democrats who are officially neutral in the race, such as Clyburn, to speak out.

Clinton's camp has a vastly different interpretation, arguing that the most recent primary demonstrated that Democrats remain very interested in seeing the contest continue.

"Pennsylvania did the job of calming any nerves that existed," said Clinton campaign spokesman Jay Carson. "It showed that the big states around the country think she's the best person to be president."

But that opinion is far from unanimous. More than 70 top Clinton donors wrote their first checks to Obama in March, campaign records show. Clinton's lead among superdelegates, a collection of almost 800 party leaders and elected officials, has slipped from 106 in December to 23 now, according to an Associated Press tally.

“As an “Operation Chaos” operative, I was glad to do my part by stirring the pot here in Pennsylvania. As you can well see, the rats are as discombobulated as ever. Now it’s up to the good people of North Carolina and Indiana to keep this thing ours going.”

Thanks for the contribution to the chaos! I did my part by donating $50 to Hillary just after the Pennsylvania primary. Many on this site don’t understand the strategy, but it is and will work to the detriment of democrats. We need not be satisfied with trying to win the Presidency with liberal minded candidate McCain. We can use this strategy to help elect Republicans (conservatives) to congress! That is where the real gold lies.

This whole concept is dripping with irony and it is throughly enjoyable to watch itself play out. Here we have the political party which has always prided itself as being the “big tent” of diversity and multiculturalism fighting it out on the basis of gender and race. The true irony is that identity politics have been used for decades by the rats against republicans and now they have turned inward and are using this same strategy to the best of their ability to devour their own!

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dem party exposed Reverend Wright themselves to keep the divide going...truth is, if Obama gets the nod...a lot of Dems will have very little reason to exist.

While I throughly agree with your assertion that much needs to be done to put both fiscal and social conservatives back into Congress, I also believe that either Clinton or Obama in the Oval Office would be a complete and utter disaster for our country. McCain is as far from perfect as one can get for a republican candidate, but considering the alternatives he will most definitely get my vote in November.

Ask yourself this...why does Reverend Wright keep popping his head up in the media when he knows his racist mouth is taking Obama further down? Hmmmm...It just all seems too convenient.

"Identity politics has resulted in a situation where the Democrats experience the chickens of racism coming home to roost."

I think it's heavier than that.

The x42's are not going away and I think a lot of people are, without actually attatching the word, starting to look on the x42's as the cancer they are.

The x42's don't care about other people, the party, each other, the nation ... perhaps even planet Earth ... they are an evil cancer ... and their spawn has indicated that they may be matastisizing.

The bwitch was conveniently sidelined into the NY Senatorship and x42 was allowed to run around the world, spouting it's anti-everything rhetoric and doing whatever skirt it came in contact with. The C-spawn was being lured and photographed into drunken oblivian and who knows what other compromising situation.

The work of the Movers and Shakers could go on and the x42's will fade away into oblivian ... slowly ... but they will fade.

I didn't like Rush's Op. Chaos when it was proposed, but I thought .. maybe there is more here than I understand .. so I didn't get too bent out of shape about it.

The bwitch should have been taken out ... plain and simple.

The destruction of the democratic party is not a major event.

America is just about done on one side, and all that needs to be done is flip her over to brown the other ... The 2nd Ammendment.

Am I just a looney paranoid ... or am I seeing things correctly?

I don't know ...

What I do know is ... the three candidates running are 1 democrat, 1 socialist and 1 uber-socialist.

And we are in trouble.

If osamaobama were a two year old senator {like jim webb} would any demonRAT seriously consider him for President?

The fact that osamaobama can carry 97% of the black male vote and 70% of the black female vote is the ONLY reason he is on the ticket.

I want to see the klintoooons get into the back room in denver and leave blood all over the floor.

Regardless of which one survives, there will be total chaos that will go all the way to November.

I think it is all ... and has been, all along ... a carefully choreographed play.

True, the "acts" were loosely written (allowance(s) was provided for impromptu geurilla theater, and improv. solo's), but the "destruction of the democrat party" is merely the title of the manuscript.

The real purpose is to further numb the American people into accepting "The Late, Great U.S. of A."

After all ... if the dem party is destroyed, and the republican party is neutered ... what is left?

Did I say left?

The 2nd Ammendment.

While I relish the sight of the Dems getting torn apart by the racial divide that they have so diligently fed for so long, the sad reality is that, though it will hurt their party’s chances, in the bigger picture it will not benefit the country otherwise.

The hatred and rage that they have spawned and nurtured will be/is directed at all whites and the country in general.

Racial hatred as promoted by the Dems is a prime example of how they are willing, nay eager, to destroy this country in pursuit of their own desire for power.

“Will they abandon the Democrats even if Hillary robs Obama? I’ll bet they don’t.”

Because it has always been “vote for us then go to back to the plantation. We’ll get you some midnight basketball.”

Plus, people like Wright, Sharpton and Jackson will extort money from whoever wins for their support.

The Clintons aren’t stupid. Criminals yes. Stupid no.

“Well if he doesn’t survive the primary, they won’t be able to blame conservatives of any flavor. The “blame” will lie among themselves.”

He won’t. Everyone still believes that this Obamamania is real. The Superdelegates know he is McGovern in a better suit. There are only two things they need to know before they cast their votes. 1) Can Obama beat McCain in PA? 2) Can Obama beat McCain in Ohio?

The Democrats weren’t concerned about a “racial divide” when they supported segregation and Jim Crow laws.

No. It is done. Its job is done.

There reaches a point where a risk/reward ratio reverses. She is the more centrist candidate and she has the better chance in the general.

He has been weakened by Chaos’ prolonging the matter. She will now stay through June. There will be no blood on the floor in Denver because it won’t be allowed. All fights will be off camera.

The risk of her winning the nomination are too great. The black vote won’t abandon her when she nominates a black VP.

It’s over. Time to pump up Obama and erase her. The work is done. Don’t go wobbly here when cold calculations of risk/reward show what they show. Remain firm in the confidence of the evaluation that he has been damaged, but she has not been elevated to victory.

Make sure he wins North Carolina, and Indiana at least 50/50. She won’t stop, but she won’t win. THAT is the optimal goal. Have her continue, but HE MUST WIN THE NOMINATION.

Obama said yesterday---it was all over CNN---that all the racists had already decided to vote for McCain, or words very close to that. Was in the airport, so I didn't write down the exact quotation. But once again, we are stuck between an overt racist/anti-US nut (Obama), a freeze-dried socialist hag (Clinton) or an anti-conservative, abusive McCain who gives conservatives the middle finger at every opportunity.

I'm looking L for the first time in my life when it comes to president.

Absolutely agree that the false messiah is eminently more beatable than the beast in the general. Looking at the demographics of North Carolina's democrats, I would think that it would be darn near impossible for Barry to lose the state. Indiana is another story. I just want this to be as prolonged as possible but I do understand your concerns as to risk/reward./p>

The super delegates can nominate Hillary but alienate black voters and that could cost the party a close election in November. Or they can nominate Obama and watch the Democrats face a George McGovern style landslide loss in November. Both of their current candidates offer no prospect of regaining the White House.
