McCain was doing Bush’s bidding on Amnesty.
I do believe that wholeheartedly.

The Big Tent GOP believed they had been given a pass on illegal immigration. Bush has been playing footsie with Mexico since before he was elected, and no one said “boo”.

No one cared, because there were much bigger issues at hand.
Bush tested the waters many times, and got virtually no resistance.
In fact, everything he did seemed to get cheered on by the Right, as though he was Barack Obama blowing his nose at a rally.

So it is no wonder, being that Amnesty was part of Karl Rove’s Big Tent Strategy from Day One, that Bush eventually tried it. McCain was just his chosen man to do it. It was Bush passing the electoral torch to McCain. They were blindsided. Neither knew there would be the backlash there was.

I do believe that Amnesty was Bush’s issue, from the start.
I think McCain could take it or leave it. I don’t think he’ll revisit it again.
Unlike Bush, McCain has gotten the message that people want border security first.

You do realize, that McCain has said just recently that he would sign the Amnesty if it made it to his desk as President, right?

Furthermore, It realy is a reach to blame this on Bush. The bill's name was called McCain-Kennedy and McCain has been emphatic and emotionally strident when expressing his support for this idea for the last 7 years.

There is absolutely no historical evidence to support your contention that he was just doing the bidding of GWB, None whatsoever.

As for your contention that he has gotten the message concerning border security, I wouldn't believe it for a second. He has not delineated whether he wants a hard fence or a technological fence. He has left it wide open as to what border security means and that is the favorite ploy of the open borders crowd. Promise anything and execute on nothing.

While I love to listen to Keyes and his passion filled speaches he is not a viable candidate. I voted for him here in Michigan the last two elections and voted for Thompsonin this past presidential primary. Neither have the backing needed in a two party system to become viable.

Thompson could have had this if he wanted it....he just never had the organization in place.

Speaking as a CONSERVATIVE I am very disappointed in McCain as our candidate. My gut tells me he will sell us out. The Vietnamese may not have broken his will while he was a POW but I do believe they set the table for his actions in office today. While he may be stubborn on some issues he seems to back into a corner and take sides with an enemy so he doesnt take as many punches. How anybody who is a true conservative can form alliances and curry favor with the likes of the Demonrats and have the audacity to call themselves a conservative is beyond me.

It is one thing to play in the same sandbox with others.....it is another if you start to build castles with them.
