Border agents to use paintball guns to fend off attackers

TUCSON - Some surprising news came from the United States Border Patrol.

The Patrol has purchased 1,000 guns that fire non-lethal paintball or pepper pellets. The goal of a target practice session was to hit the white rag at the end of a hall with paintballs. Border Patrol agents may soon use paintballs to defend themselves against smugglers along the border due to an increase in violence.

Surveillance video from an incident last year in El Paso shows a Border Patrol agent retreating after people pelt him with rocks. Some could argue the same about being hit by a paintball without protective gear, where a projectile from a paintball gun leaves a small welt on the flesh.

Small welt or not, human rights activists say it is a bad idea, even for a line of defense.

A 9mm in the hands of the BP agents will do more good. And the victims will never come back.

Oh how nice! a kinder gentler agent, I feel safe now, why not give them water pistols to also cool the illegals and drug runners down from the oppressive heat or better yet lets make them laugh, give the agents toy guns with flags that pop out when you fire them. Is this Pelosi’s idea?

"Hate to be there when they figure this out, but pepper weapons typically do not work very well against cultural Hispanics."

While I'm not hispanic, I've always enjoyed extremely spicy foods. During OC certification, I won't say that I enjoyed being sprayed, but I seemed to fare much better than others. Likewise, I was the guy in the Army that did pretty well in the CS chamber. It would irritate my eyes a little, and after a while my sinuses and throat would lock up, but I could hang out for a while unmasked, and while others were stumbling over each other to get out, I could exit at a casual pace. I know they're entirely different chemicals and I'm not attributing my resistance to CS to my spicy diet...but in the case of OC pepper spray, I'm of the decided opinion that there is a relationship.

Not a WET towel, you don’t mean!

There’s a global warming-caused WATER SHORTAGE going on now, don’t you know?

“Interesting thing happens to paint balls when you freeze them.....”

The pepper balls being talked about in this story are much, much harder than regular paintballs (at least the ones I’ve seen were that way). I think the idea may be to cause a good deal of pain and discomfort from the impact, to go along with the pepper. I’ve never been hit with one, but I have shot them and watched the impact on a cinder block fence. I think you could actually take someone down if you bounced a few off their noggin.

I wouldn’t use a paintball marker gun because #1 it is evidence that can be used against you. A neighbor could testify that the deer ran from your yard with paint splatters on them and that you are abusing them.

My suggestion would be to use a slingshot and marbles or a pump action pellet gun.

Now remember :

Sutton's representative before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals told the Judges that a L.E.O. actually could be prosecuted under Congress' 924-c statute (that's the original one, not Sutton's "amended" version) by simple virtue of the fact that they were carrying a gun.

In Sutton's view, a L.E.O. never even has to draw his sidearm from its holster in order to be prosecuted under the 924-c law. If the officer in question becomes "overzealous" while apprehending a suspect, merely being in "possession" of a firearm is enough to prosecute them in court.

That's the kind of precedent Johnny wants to establish.

What’s going to happen if the illegals start shoot back ...... with paintball guns of course? How is the agent supposed to determine the difference?

They should issue them squirt guns, that way they can cool the illegals down as they come across... We must continue the compassionate policies of the White House.

I’m kinda strapped for cash, but I’d still purchase a firearm for a Border Patrol agent. This is absolutely insane. A non-lethal form of defense against drunk, possibly high Mexican illegals, who could be armed? Nevermind that, if the Mexican army were to make an incursion...

The President has shown, despite everything he asserts, that when it comes to the war on terror, he is NOT a serious man. (Don Corleone would never have tolerated such amateur tricks.) Is it any wonder that he leaves by turns so many of us, his former supporters, disgusted, flummoxed and laughing derisively at his clownish behaviour?

Hmmm, pepper balls vs. semi-automatic weapons...not even close...right now those coyotes are having a good laugh at our expense.

Agree. Ya know, the terrorist must really be a bunch of inept, underfunded buffoons. Or maybe, they are really, really patient, and will just wipe out the country when they eventually get around to it.

I still remember the night of 911. We were here betting the Mexican border, due to the levels of corruption in that country, would be closed down within 48 hours of towers slamming into the streets of NY.

When that never happened, and he just continued to flood the country will millions illegally, and tens of thousands of others from the Mid East yet, when knew things were not right in the mans head.

How about spit balls?

This just has to be a satire. It can’t be real.
