National Right to Life PAC Endorses Rep. Hunter's Son
The Hill ^ | 4/25/08 | Walt Alarkon

Duncan D. Hunter is getting a boost from a national pro-life group in his bid to succeed his father, retiring Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.).

The National Right to Life PAC endorsed the younger Hunter on Thursday.

"The countless Americans who respect the sanctity of innocent human life appreciate your willingness to serve," said the PAC's executive director, David O'Steen, in a statement.

Hunter's father, a staunch conservative, has represented the San Diego-area district for 27 years. Hunter, a 31-year-old veteran of the Iraq war, will face three other Republicans in a June 3 primary. He has raised about $501,000 for his campaign, more than twice as much as any other candidate.

There was some question some months ago that Hunter’s son wouldn’t be able to campaign due to military commitments. Is that resolved?

The son looks a lot less like a used car salesman. He should do well. Sadly those things matter and though nobody wanted to mention it, I’m pretty sure it was a factor.

You know I just read an article in Navy Times that stated that they were trying to get military people out of running for office even reservists so I guess this MIGHT happen to Hunter’s son, but you know how new is....

If Hunter looks like a used car salesman to you then McCain must look like a greeter at WalMart.

Sorry folks...Changing the subject (I am so sick of this)...Again, for too many times, my page is running off the right margin for about a mile.

Oh, that’s just silly. Hunter looks like a used car salesman?

Better than some twisted out of shape volatile balding little troll like McCain. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Get glasses. Quick.

The small minded who go in for looks got their candidate.

I rather have a person who has the experience and expertise. Because the current Rep. Duncan Hunter is a blue collar type person and worked through law school and a vet of the Vietnam war, the smug didn’t want the conservative candidate.

So we are no stuck with McCain over the Marxist candidate

Sorry you are bothered by that but I heard it too many times when I was handing out literature. People are shallow. There is no getting around it. Crying about it won’t make it better. If it makes you feel any better, I also hear “Televangelist” brought up a few times. That whole “first impression” thing wasn’t made up from whole cloth. Its just another point we have to consider. Theres a reason that the greatest President of our generation was a movie star and it wasn’t just his speaking ability.

Yes, and Duncan Hunter puts McCain’s delivery to shame. You had a year to insult Hunter and STILL you have to. Why?

I suppose you saw the article the other day where McCain feels he needs to pick a ‘pro choice’ VP.

Here’s a tid bit I hadn’t seen....circa 1993. Did you know he helped craft, ‘don’t ask, don’t tell?’ And according to him, this IS NOT a Christian nation....

McCain also noted that he was in the opposition when the Arizona Republican Party several years ago endorsed a resolution declaring the United States to be a Christian nation.

``I am a Christian,’’ McCain said, ``and devotion to my faith is integral to my own pursuit of happiness. But we are not only a Christian nation.’’

The senator was recently active in crafting the ``don’t ask-don’t tell’’ policy in regard to gays in the military but has otherwise largely stayed away from the issue during his political career.

Didn't John McCain also oppose the marriage amendment?

A trivial point: His suits are too big in the shoulders and at times he reminds me of a zoot suiter with his oddly short arms.

I think you’re correct on both points.

I missed that one.

Put it together with his other comment, about wanting to appoint someone that thinks like him and will carry on his agenda (can you say global warming?), and I guess he could appoint just about any pro-choice Democrat.

What makes you think I am insulting him? Did you read what I posted? How can what other people said to me when I was trying to campaign for him be anything other than an observation? To me he looks a lot like one of my college profs but my opinion of his looks didn’t enter into my initial decision to support him or my eventual change of heart but the response of people on the street did.
You, if I remember correctly were the one dropping insults and innuendo on other candidates’ threads and then running off. That sort of attitude certainly encouraged me and a few others I know of to distance ourselves from the Hunter 08 people here on Free Republic. Well done.

You are suggesting that Duncan Lee Hunter looked like a used car salesman? You obviously can’t recognize an honest statesman when you see him. The entire Hunter family are true Americans with unquestionable principles. And Rep.Hunter is still fighting the good fight for us in Congress. Shame on you, Uriah Heap!

I never heard that about Hunter. I did hear from many folks that they liked him but he had no chance, which kind of becomes a self fulfilling prophecy
