There was one up in Fairbanks, AK in Nov of 2006, a volunteer diver found his body under the ice a bit downstream just before the winter river breakup of the Chena River in April of 07. Fairbanks PD information # is 907-459-6500.
They were interviewing the reporter for this on the radio this morning. She mentioned that for most of the victims the alcohol level was in the .12%-.20% range. Too high for driving but not to the point of being in a stupor.
Seems like they should have been able to avoid falling in the river.

Coming out of bars hints that the perps wanted their target to be incapacitated, yet they chose athletic guys.
Interetingly, there are not stories of guys that escaped to tell their story. Hmmm...unless one of the witnesses is one of those guys.

Yes. I ruled out drug dealers because they just don’t behave like that. Some years ago, a friend of mine had a son in college with a heroin habit. The mob approached her and said that if she didn’t pay her son’s bills, they’d break both his legs. She paid, and sent her son to Silver Hill, because they clearly meant what they said.

That’s a plausible theory. The murders have been in several different states, so they must be connected by something like the internet. A bunch of Goth kids whose Dungeon and Dragon-like games have escalated to murder?
Yeah, I heard this on KQ this morning and posted the same thing a few hours after you just because it was so strange. I hope this gets persued further and we can put this to rest, this has gone on too long.

Another poster brought up Leopold and Loeb; an interesting case because they killed, essentially for no other reason than to see if they could pull off the perfect murder. Suppose a group of folks, initially connected for an online game, some discussion board or for some other completely different reason hatched an idea to try the perfect murder spree. By coordinating their activities over space and time, they could take a lot of steps to make things appear as though it were one killer...victimology, smiley face tags, etc. while operating in their own comfort zone and letting another "cell" in the conspiracy take care of the next killing on their turf.
The problem with any conspiracy is that every additional person included increases the odds of everybody being ratted out. Unless there is some type of enforceable (and enforced) code of omerta, the whole thing is likely to unravel itself. With a homocide rap though, once you're in for a penny, you're in for a pound. There are some aspects of this that make it seem as if it's a very tight, cohesive ring, and other aspects that seem more like the activity of a loose confederation. Very curious indeed.
