Pelosi wants Bush to stop filling Petroleum Reserve By Mike Soraghan Posted: 04/24/08 11:54 AM [ET] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) Thursday called on President Bush to stop filling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as a way to reduce gas prices at the pump.
Her call came after days of demands by House Republicans that she produce a plan to reduce gas prices.
I call upon the president today to work with Democrats to lower gas prices, Pelosi said.
The Speaker stated that the reserve is 97 percent full, and cited experts saying that the move could reduce gas prices by as much as 5 cents.
Pelosi also called on the president to support legislation that she said would hold OPEC accountable for high gas prices and end what she considers to be subsidies to big oil companies.
All of these are part of saying the leverage is with the consumer and not big oil, Pelosi said.

Whatever we do, let us not drill for oil on our land and seas. /s
Every day and every way, she is the baseline for stupiditiy - with no human being existing at a lower level. Science knowledge? Nope. Economic knowledge? Nope. Got where she is on her husband’s money? Yep. You’ve gotta love it. It just doesn’t get better than this!!
It is positively stupefying how much of a meat head we have for a speaker of the House.
Good Lord, you lower gasoline prices by developing more capacity, both wells and refineries.
Reducing federal taxes on gasoline wouldn’t burt the price either. But the Democrats will NEVER go along with that one.
Ya know when hillary obliterates Iran we will need our reserves cause there sure as heck will be a disruption of oil flow from the middle east. Course looming armegeddon in the middle east isn’t a good enough reason for the donks to let us drill on our own soil and be prepared.
The Speaker stated that the reserve is 97 percent full, and cited experts saying that the move could reduce gas prices by as much as 5 cents.

Wow 5 whole cents!
How about a federal and state gas tax freeze, that would make a dent.
Apparently the only holes being drilled are the ones in Pelosi’s head.
The amount going into SPR is trivial compared to the national demand.
Plus, the problem isn’t really the supply of oil on the market, it’s the weak dollar which we intentionally created to boost exports, limit imports, and get through the sub-prime crisis.
Stupid, arrogant biltch
true what you say. but we should still be preparing for any disruption of foreign oil. We should be able to go online within weeks not years in a perfect world.
Yes, high gas prices don’t affect her government supplied limosuine.
She and Murtha and Scuba Teddy and Carter and the Klintoons et al could certainly fill the gas reserves on their own.
. . . out either end, much more, both ends.
Memo to Nancy Pelosi: You fail at coming up with anything close to helping the American people. We like John McCain’s idea of a summer break from all Federal Gas Tax which would knock off about 18 cents per gallon, not your measly 5 cents.
One more reason why every republican needs to get out and vote this november for every republican on the ballot - I realize its bleak for us to hope to retake the house, but each time Pelosi opens her fat botox mouth makes me want to scream!
Yeah Nancy, whatever.
Don’t discuss removing 33 cents a gallon Federal tax. Lets worrry about another 5 cents instead.
“the move could reduce gas prices by as much as 5 cents.”
The could reduce it by 18 cents if they killed the federal tax.
Dear Mr. President,
Show us you have courage, tell pelosi where to go, how to get there, and what to do with the horse when she arrives.
A conservative who is really tired of cowardice rinos.
It is funny, though, that this plan of hers admits that decreasing government market involvement would cause prices to go down. Its a shame she hasn’t figured out that this also applies to the regulations governing new refineries and domestic drilling.
Oh but they do. As price goes up purchasing is starting to go down, thus tax receipts are going down. Stop adding to the reserve and you can lower the price but still collect the tax it generates.
$.05 to fill the stratigic reserve Defence, or $2.00 (guess) from cutting gas taxes and normalizing fuel formulations....Hmmm, she’s gonna save us 5c. Thanks b’#*$!
