Up the pole: EU to carve up UK
The Sun (UK) ^ | April 23, 2008 | CLODAGH HARTLEY

Posted on 04/23/2008 12:29:14 PM PDT by Mount Athos

Secret plans reveal the South of England will be renamed TRANSMANCHE — and governed in part by bureaucrats based in France.

Two more “Transnational” zones are also being set up to “promote the territorial agenda” of the EU.

The ATLANTIC REGION — stretching thousands of miles from the northern tip of Scotland to southern Spain — will take in western England and Wales, along with parts of Portugal and France.

And the NORTH SEA REGION will cover chunks of eastern England and eastern Scotland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Holland, and the Flemish part of Belgium.

The Atlantic will have its headquarters in Portugal, the North Sea in Denmark.

Ironically, news of the carve-up comes on St George’s Day — England’s national day.

Critics, including the Tories, claim the new regions “ignore thousands of years of history and wipe England off the map”.

Spokesman Eric Pickles said: “We knew Gordon Brown had hoisted the white flag of surrender to the European Constitution.

“Now the Labour Government has been caught red-handed, conspiring with European bureaucrats to create a European Superstate via the back door.”

The stated “strategic objective” of the regions is to “support the emergence of a common space of citizenship, a sense of belonging to a cross-border area with a unique identity”.

For Britain, that means issues like transport, the environment, shipping and “cross-cultural links” — which could include tourism and town-twinning.

The three regions have been granted £660million of EU funds between them, with each handling its own budget.

A Government spokesman said: “It is about support for business, boosting employment and turning around our deprived areas.”

The controversial move to reshape national boundaries — which also insists any projects in those areas must “fly the EU flag” — emerged as England celebrates its patron saint’s day.

Besides, who’s going to rise up and fight to restore England, the Knights of the round table? A fag and a wrinkly old washed up rock star, and another long dead one? (who ironically almost single handedly is responsible for destroying the UK’s independence and is worshiped more than the paper queen)

You are completely clueless, but I salute your courage in not letting a simple thing like ignorance stop you from expressing a view on any given subject with such brazen and fearless contempt for what those who are better placed to know might think of your opinion.

As for the article, I’ll start to take it seriously when I see it in a real newspaper or other respectable source, as opposed to a comic like ‘The Sun’....

The exact same thing could happen here. *North American Union* ring anybody’s bell?

U.S. President, President of mexico, Prime Minister of Canada meeting yet again to "underscore the administration's mounting frustration that trade agreements have stalled in Congress."

Tough time getting that SPP off the ground. I wonder if he is still "amused" that there is real opposition to it, no matter what they call it...

The Security and Prosperity Partnership agreement continues to develop in secrecy

What do you do when the name of your pet program elicits loud criticism; you change its name of course. That's what the leaders of Mexico, Canada and the United States did when the Security and Prosperity Partnership agreement ran into unexpected opposition after details of SPP became known, notwithstanding efforts to keep it secret and away from public attention. The problem is that regardless what you call it, SPP is still bad news.

When Bush, Harper and Calderon met in New Orleans to continue their march toward a North American Union, the meeting was recast as a "North American Leaders Summit", the name was changed but the cast of characters and the plot remained the same. Behind the facade of a photo opportunity for President Bush, Mexico's President Felipe Caldron and Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper, was another real effort of trilateral cooperation just like their previous SPP meetings.

I agree with you there. I'm all for free trade agreements but Our independence and sovereignty as a nation must be first and foremost, our constitution followed, protected and honored at all times.

We don't want to end up like the UK, and be swallowed up in a headless EU beast and governed by a few hidden, unelected elites.

We shouldn't be so naive to think that there isn't a desire by a few elitists to form an EU equivalent involving all of the America's.

Jeez Nathan, I hate to say this but you’re coming across like a FReeper with a sore head on this thread.

Imagine if I came onto FR and told everyone, from my commanding vantage point here in the UK, that Texas was now a part of the North American Union and that it didn’t exist as a separate entity anymore? I expect that the Texans wouldn’t like it. There might be a grain of truth to it - in both cases - but thats all. If Scotland devolves (please God) you’ll see very quickly how separate England is.

And I know Australia, Canada etc are independent countries. And still they regard the Queen as their Sovereign. Its still Regina vs XXX in the legal system. It’s still the Queen on the money. The essential distinction between Head of State and Head of Government is preserved, even if the Queen can’t have me beheaded.

Plus the Queen owns $2 Billion dollars in assets. She’s got tonnes of stuff.

Seriously, go and do something else mate. We’ll be best friends on another thread. Good night.

It is a version of Dick Cheney's "Help is on the way." line from 2000, in French.

Garde la Foi! is my family's motto.

Clueless is a designation owned by you, not I.

Canada and Australia are independent countries, and have been for quite some time now. The "Queen" is only given honorary status, no real power. There was a reason Canada replaced the Brit flag with the Canadian maple leaf.

Hong Kong was returned to China in 1997 or 98. The lease expired.

Look it up for yourself.

As for the UK, it's part of the EU now, all I said is very true, whether you are aware of it or not.

What ammo? What gun? Have you forgotten even the police in the U.K. don't carry guns?

I you were a brit you would already be unarmed, and have no means of buying ammo or even creating ammo, and you would have to register any blade over a certain length (eventually).

seems that chunnel was not such a good idea after all.

“Bush, Harper and Calderon”

These are just the leaders of countries. I wonder who really pulls the strings? CFR, TriLats, BBs, all of the above?

Maybe they want us to put up Resistance.

You haven’t got the faintest idea about the Queen’s constitutional role, as evidenced by your clueless comment about her being a ‘widower’.
Nor do you have any clue about Britain’s relationship with the EU. All the countries in the EU are sovereign, and are free to leave at any time if their national governments want to, and your assumption that our culture has been erased by immigrants is based on what, personal experiance? Or soundbites from a crappy tabloid “newspaper” whose main selling point is an exposed pair of women’s knockers on page 3?

Canadian Independence Day

Canada celebrates the establishment of its federal government on July 1st.

Now known as Canada Day, this holiday, previously was known as Dominion Day and Confederation Day. This day commemorates the British North America Act of July 1, 1867, that gave Canadians Home Rule.

The national celebration is always observed on the 1st, unless it falls on a Sunday, in which case it is observed on the following Monday.

And yes, the queen has the HONORARY role as sovereign of Canada, which is represented by the Governor general, who is now Michaëlle Jean, who is basically the queens representative.

She has no real power however.

The heir apparent is Elizabeth's eldest son, Prince Charles, though the Queen is presently the only member of the "Canadian Royal Family" with any constitutional role.

When she dies, there isn't much doubt that Canada will terminate this last remaining tie.

I don't have a "sore head" over the issue, I'm just stating the facts. And having lived in Canada for a good many years, and a Canadian as well as an American citizen, I don't have any illusions over the Issue. I know what the queens role is in Canada, and know exactly what Canadians think and feel about it, which quite frankly, isn't much.

If a plebiscite were held in Canada tomorrow on whether or not to remove the queen as head of state, remove the position of governor general (Michaëlle Jean) which most Canadians feel is a complete waste of money, (do yourself a favor and google for info on her) and the provincial equivellents, the lieutenant-governors, it would be done.

Australia is similar to Canada, except they also removed her as governor general. There is often debate in Au to remove her from the currency as well.

And Hong kong, as I said, belongs to China. The lease expired in 1997-98, I was even there at the time Hong Kong was official returned to China's rule. Even the postal boxes were being torn off street corners by locals saving them as monento's.

I don't know what you feel is so "so headed".

Now that the UK has pretty much destroyed it's own sovereignty by signing over its soveriegnty to the EU, it also turned over much of its power to govern. The Queen is monarch of nothing, because the UK is no longer sovern.

I'm only stating the obvious. I didn't say I agreed with it, in fact it's quite sad.

The new Italian government will be another monkey wrench in the EU machinery as it tries to grind the nations of Europe into a secular homogenized hummus.

Perhaps it is the time of England’s darkest hour, when Arthur Pendragon is set to return, with the sword Excalibur, and at his side, St. Michael and St. George.

To slay the dragons and to smite the Saracens.

And to send the Labour party and the EU packing.
