The Coast Guard launched an intensive search Wednesday for a 44-year-old male passenger of a Carnival cruise ship who disappeared near Cozumel, Mexico, during a seven-day trip, FOX's WSVN Miami reported.

Authorities believe the man, who wasn't identified, might have fallen overboard the Carnival Victory, according to WSVN. He vanished after about 1 a.m. Tuesday, when the ship was 38 miles northeast of the coast of Cozumel.

"Yesterday evening during a seven-day cruise aboard the Carnival Victory, shortly after the vessel had departed Cozumel, Mexico, a 44-year-old male guest was reported missing by a member of his family who had reportedly not seen him on the ship for an extended period of time," the cruise line, based in Miami, said in a statement.

"A comprehensive ship-wide search was conducted and the vessel's command immediately notified the proper authorities, including U.S. Coast Guard and FBI, as per the company's normal protocol."

I use to work on a ship. That boy is done. Throw a wreath on the water and start tearing into his will.

I find it hard to believe he just fell off. Probably had a big life insurance policy and his wife pushed him. Or he was drunk and trying to do the “I’m the king of the world” thing from Titanic.

1 a.m. on a cruise ship is no time or place to have a 'hold muh beer' moment......

I have always wondered about this. Would you get churned up by the prop or would you survive long enough to be treading water (for hours?).

There’s always something with these cruise ships. Think I’ll keep my feet on dry land.

Hmmm....I'm sure excess alcohol wasn't involved. /sarcasm

Actually, I've taken a few cruises and done my own share of imbibing and considering the partying that sometimes goes on on those ships, it's a wonder more people don't go overboard.

I have a related question: how high are the railings? Are they high enough to keep you from going over the side if you have to, ahem, toss your cookies overboard?

what i find hard to believe is that the liberal do-gooders in the gubmint haven’t started legislation that requires cruise ships to be covered with chicken wire.

“...trying to do the “I’m the king of the world” thing from Titanic.”

That’s always the first thing I do on a cruise ship, at 1:00 a.m.

I think I’ll keep landlocked, too.

I love cruises, and I have also never come close to falling off a ship.

The truth is(particularly on newer ships) that you would have to climb the railing to fall over it. Basically, the guy either jumped overboard, or he decided to try to walk or sit on the railing. If so, a Darwin Award to him.

She has no idea what she’s missing. I’ve been on many and love it. I stay away from the mega ships now, too impersonal and crowded.

Almost all of these cases involve alcohol.

But it would be easy to “off” an alcoholic spouse.

Staggering around drunk on a cruise ship is probably not a good idea.

The railings are high enough that it would take some effort to fall over but yes, you could easily lean over to throw up if necessary. Also, depending on what deck you are on or what part of the deck, going overboard may just result in you landing on the guy below you’s balcony, which is survivable for sure. Just embarrassing I guess....

"I'm King of the World"

SPLASH!!

Perhaps, our Darwinian Victim should have done his "Titanic" Leonardo DiCaprio impersonation while inside his cabin after a night of drinking.
