Populism is neither left nor right.
Populism is spin for moderate which in turn is spin for socialism.
The real fissure in the Republican Party is not between centrists and conservatives. It is between the rich and the rest.
Wrong, the fissure is between Conservatives and the socialist Republican party. Conservatives don't have a problem with somebody working their way up the financial ladder. That's a socialist Democrat trait. Careful Dick you're letting your socialist Democrat class warfare thinking show through.

populism is socialism
whenever someone says they’ll use the force of government to help the masses at the expense of the “rich”
that’s socialism.

The real fissure in the Republican Party is not between centrists and conservatives. It is between the rich and the rest. I believe this to be true. Construction contractors and big Ag are making huge money on the backs of illegals and contributing big money to the Republicans.
The Republicans are throwing their voting base and America in general under the bus for a little short term money.
If they are very lucky, 20 million illegals, now new Dem voters, will only decimate the stupid Republican Party.
